Title: Homer questions for Buzz show tonight.
Post by: garbier1 on December 11, 2013, 07:33:36 AM
Asking for questions you would like me to ask Buzz on his radio show tonight.
6-7pm on 540 ESPN Milwaukee from Ward's House of Prime on the corner of Mason and Jackson.

With Duane's return being on the horizon what type of potential adjustments does he plan on making if any?

Heading into break, what will Buzz be focusing on within his offensive scheme to get more production out of his guards?

This team has been slow to gel with roles, injuries, a transfer. What has Buzz been dealing with and what are his expectations of the team going forward to put the pieces together.

More importantly, how are you doing, Homer?  So glad you are back doing what you love, as we love what you do.

Redshirting: Did Duane Wilson consider doing it?  Why did he (apparently) opt against it?  Similar to Cadougan?  Steve Taylor Jr. eligible?

What's gonna be the team's Xmas present this year? Maybe a backcourt, hey?

The team has had limited scoring from Jake Thomas.  Jake hasn't been able to create opportunities on his own to get open looks.  Do you have any changes in the works to attempt to get Jake more open looks in order to take advantage of his shooting ability?

Homer, glad to hear you are doing well!

It appears to me Jamil Wilson is being asked to play a little different roll this year, as more of a perimeter guy both offensively and defensively, where he may have spent more time underneath/with his back to the basket last year. (More Vander Blue than Jae Crowder) Accurate? Assuming so, how has he handled that adjustment?

Our bigs seem to be our biggest asset this year. What do we need to do to get them the ball down-low more consistently on offense?

What is Steve Taylor Jr's prognosis?   How are the freshmen doing as far as figuring out the offensive and defensive permutations?

With much success comes higher expectations and greater pressure to perform (and perform right from the start).  To what extent does the negative/pessimistic viewpoints that get thrown around regarding the team on social media (which includes this board) impact the team and, if it does at all, how do you remind yourself and the team that the vast majority of the fans are appreciative of the team's efforts and what you all do on and off the court (or do you like the bulletin board material this stuff provides for motivation)?

Glad your back Homer and hope you are already feeling 100%.

Considering the flurry of news in the college football world around Coach Saban and whether he will stay or leave Alabama... what is the right way for college coaches to handle rumors or potential offers from other schools in this era of over-coverage from the media?

Considering that after his last extension Coach Saban had said "From my standpoint, the acceptance of this extension represents our commitment ... to the University of Alabama for the rest of our career. We made that decision after the season when other people were interested."

Lighter side ..

Coach Buzz - Do you have any Christmas traditions at the Williams' household?   St. Nick's day?  Elf on the shelf?  What non-basketball item do you want Santa to bring you?

- Steve Taylor status.

- Gardner seems to being playing more on the perimeter, especially on top by the free throw line, why?

- Defenses have sagged off on Derrick Wilson, does he have the green light to shoot or is he just hesitant?

Glad your health issues are getting better and thanks for the opportunity to have us ask these questions.

Is there a thought to use Jake as a strategic spot player and replace his minutes with speed, slasher, length (Mayo and Johnson)?

Homer, please find a way to ask this in your tactful method.

Back courts are often seen as a pairing with each member bringing out the best in the other.  Slightly different in Buzz's system since anyone can initiate offense.

However, assuming no one is hurt/suspended/abducted by aliens, which pairing of 1 and 2 does Buzz think is optimal for this team right now and what does he think that pair will be at the end of the season?

Does Buzz wait until we're playing a team he knows we'll lose to (except, of course for N Colorado, UW in 2011 and WVU) to levy suspensions? And in doing so, is his motive to get sympathy from the selection committee for having played games he knew we would lose anyway (except for the 3 out of 4 we won) short handed?

The team has had limited scoring from Jake Thomas.  Jake hasn't been able to create opportunities on his own to get open looks.

Good shooters rely on getting picks. Jake doesn't get help on picks. Watching Deonte try to pick for Jake against UW was a joke.

I'll guess:

"John is a great kid and a really hard worker. I love John. I should probably find more minutes for him and that's on me, but it's hard to take Derrick off of the floor. I love John as a person, and I think he's a key member of our program."

Glad you're back Homer.  MU needs you.

We also need Duane and Todd.

My question is with the return of Duana will the team run fast breaks.  Duane and Todd should be able to run like former MU teams.  We need to stretch the court to win.

It's been rumored via various sources that you indeed LIKE losing basketball games, rather than winning games.  And that you are so stubborn, and stuck in your ways, and would rather play Jake Thomas, than admit he is not D-1 talent.  What do you have to say for yourself?

Before the season started, Buzz mentioned that the "new" Big East will show how good or bad it really is in non-conference.  Now that the non-conference schedule is winding down, what does he think?  I am certain he won't speak for the rest of the conference, but I'd be curious to hear his take on Marquette's own non-conference performance.

In the past it seems that you like to recruit big, physical point guards.  With the new rules changes will this impact the type of point guards you evaluate and recruit.
