Title: I can't wait until..
Post by: Otule's Glass Eye on December 07, 2013, 04:37:56 PM
Duane Wilson is able to play, whenever that is. An outside presence would've helped a lot today, and as we all know Derrick Wilson is not at all a perimeter shooting threat (except when he shoots and makes the shot after the play is dead, like he did today). Jamil and Gardner were the only two guys to make a three today, and also Juan who got robbed of one. Some more threes taken and made today would've made it a closer game and given us a better chance to win. Jake Thomas is essentially a waste of minutes if he isn't taking (and making) threes. If Duane can turn that 55% he shot from three in high school to around say 40% or better at MU, it would be very helpful. His outside presence would also make things easier in the paint for Oxtule. Hope Duane is able to play this year.

If Duane is asked to play 20-25 mins/gm upon his return, I am fine with him playing this year.  If he is only looking at 10mins/gm, I say keep the redshirt on and retain the year of eligibility.

I don't want the same mistake Crean made with Junior, to be repeated.

Crean made?

Junior's freshman year was 2010.  Crean left in 2008.  It was Buzz's mistake.

If Duane can play only 10 minutes a game for this team, shut him down for 4 years.

Now that I think about it, Crean allowed Mbakwe to return.

And with both players, it wasn't the coach's call--it was the player who wanted to get back on the court.

And I don't think either case was a mistake at all--both players used getting cleared to play as a motivating factor to recover from an injury.

It would have been a mistake for any coach to let a kid work his heart out for months to regain medical clearance, only to pull the rug out from under him once he's actually cleared.

Back in '09, Acker, Cubillan, and Buycks were on the roster so it really was unnecessary for Junior to return. This year we have no point guard.

So the player doesn't get a vote? If it was a "mistake" at all, it was Junior's mistake as much or more than it was Buzz's.

He clarified this in his second post

It was Bush's fault.

And it's a good thing Mbakwe decided not to use his redshirt year.  That really came in handy when he was being prosecuted for sexual assault.

Long gone from Marquette after that happened.  Fortunately your conference brethren had no problem playing him even after it happened.

At least the Badgers got rid of Boo Wade after his incident.
