What happened to the Buzz Williams we knew??? The Buzz Williams that always played the best players and gave his team the best chance of winning. Who's teams were quick and athletic who got the ball out in transition and were very fun to watch and would be one of the conference leaders in scoring with 70+ points a game every year. Whose teams would always play well in non-conference and represent whether pre-season or post-season. Who's style of play had other elite recruits wanting to come to Marquette and join the fun.
Some on this board (including me) thought this might be your best team yet that had the most depth and experience with two bigs (2 of them and not just one like many years).
No one would have thought that two players (Jake and Juan) who said they were transferring because they were not impact players and not getting a ton of minutes (or Jake's case even a scholarship) would be rewarded with the keys to the season with huge minutes in-spite of them not being good enough to help us win against a high major schedule. No one with a clue would say please play Derick Wilson 32 minutes a game as you (Buzz) even said in the past he couldn't win a shooting contest with anyone, nor is he quick, an exceptional passer, defender, etc.
When you don't play your best players then everyone else starts to press too as the game becomes harder for everyone as too much focus becomes on Wilson and Gardner to score and easy baskets become in short-supply and momentum and confidence starts to wane.
You need to get this team and fan base back fast otherwise it will be a long year with plenty of losses, no NCAA tournament and lower attendance. Iron things out with Mayo and Taylor Junior. Have a come to Jesus with the team and say we have to make some changes because what we are doing is not working!
Please bring back the real Buzz Williams!!!!!
Maybe he should coach them to play as if they're down 9 with 3 minutes for the entire game, even if they're up 20 with 14 to go.
I'm so sick and tired of the absolutely pathetic and disgusting inside "play." If we don't lead the NCAA with missed layup attempts, we must be in the top 3.
The real Buzz is an eccentric IMO. Him playing JT is something two former Warrior coaches could have done as well, Al and Rick. At some point I might go from throwing things to laughing about the back court.

Taylor is hurt and Todd was suspended for being stupid for the .....whatever th time. Yeah it is Buzz's fault they miss layups and open shots. Burton is getting plenty of time so Buzz knows he is ready, the others not. He knows what he is doing. Stop the trolling and nonsense comments.
Then again, he could not act like a fan and overreact, stay true to the way he has always done things, the way he has done them, which hasn't really failed yet.

After losing every single impact non-conference game this season is this overreacting? Today was not the first time we've seen this team struggle this year...it's become commonplace now. Could someone take our scoring average this year and compare it to past years and tell me this is Buzz basketball and be patient as the losses continue to mount. A Villanova friend of mine just texted me we could be NIT bound withi no quality wins and he is right.
Teams can win with freshman...we did it with the three amigos and Kentucky has even won championships with them.
Play your best players period....you get paid $2MM+ a year to win basketball games and not just to reward your "toughest" guys with playing time for being good citizens but average bball players.
+100, but does not matter, buzz will keep trotting out his guys.. start a new pool - when do we get our first transfer?

We are averaging three more PPG than we did last year.

Are you sure we aren't currently playing the best players on the roster? The three amigos success was very rare and our freshman are not even comparable to Kentucky's. I think Derrick is the best option at the point and think Dawson would give us even less at this point in time. I don't think Jake is the best option at the 2 but what were the other options today other than riding JJJ the whole game? Steve Taylor could be done for the year and Burton played quite a bit and racked up a lot of fouls. I think the cupboard may be a little more bare than we think.
Burton's defense is really bad.
No excuse for not playin' like your hair's on fire, a'ina?

Burton's defense is really bad.
It was today for sure, but he had a tough draw most of the game. He hustles his ass off, saw him diving on the floor, that's the type of thing buzz likes
Burton's D is least of problems. The kid is a work horse. Very big upside with his game.

Big east games are probably included in that number from last year and they tend to be grind it out, physical lower scoring affairs. Last year's team also struggled to score hence why I asked for various years. The good news is we get a lot more post baskets this year than is some past years when we only had Lazar down low or Dwight Burke.
Of course our freshmen play bad defense but Jake Thomas, Juan and Derick are stalwart's defensively in-spite of my eyes telling me otherwise. The more they play the more they will learn and get better and give us the ability to make steals and create easy dunks which we'll never get from these guys.
I don't think the cupboards are more bare then we thought....playing the wrong players as mentioned makes everyone look worse.

Buzz likes it when you dive on the floor/out of bounds after a pass you have zero chance to get to, taking yourself totally out of the play and allowing the other team to go 5 on 4?

I agree that he has a huge upside. Going to be a monster before he leave here. But his defense at this point is a bigger liability than the impact he has on the offensive end.
Juan is better right now.

That wasn't the only time he was on the floor after loose balls and the one you mentioned was late in the game when they needed to make something happen. It was a good effort and showed some heart. Feel free to criticize a freshmen for trying though that's big of you.

When tow of them are to top 10 teams (one on the road, and the other two road games to tournament teams, yes, it's overreacting. It is completely overreacting.
You can say he's not playing his best players, but I'll trust his opinion on who the best players are right now over yours, if you don't mind. Unless you're suggesting that having guys like JJJ, Burton, Steve Taylor, etc. out there for 30 minutes against a Bo Ryan team would have meant an MU win. Now clearly you arent suggesting that, are you?
Will the rotation change/evolve over time? Yes it will, but for Buzz to take the advice of you and others would turn these close losses to good teams into 20 point ass poundings.

We agree to disagree then as we did get out butt pounded against OSU with the veteran players we played and didn't even break 50 points and yes I thought we could and should have beat Wisconsin as I don't care what their record or rank is as we are talented also based on our preseason rank and past season's body of work. However buzz has coached poorly this year thus far and hence why we are in the pickle we are in right now.
My big question... Why did we start out the second half in a zone?

Is criticizing a freshman worse than criticizing any other member of the team? Plenty of that going on here every day.
It was a bad play by a freshman who certainly was making an effort. Doesn't change the fact that the effort wasn't a very bright one and compromised the team's defense. Did Wisconsin score on the play? I don't remember, honestly so who knows if it really cost the team. It is, however, a classic example of why freshman are not what everyone here makes them out to be. They make a lot of mistakes.

criticize for poor play, not moving feet, poor position, poor rotation etc, not for diving on the floor trying to get your team back in the game late. That showed me something about the kids heart

Then you're delusional, if you believe we should have beaten Wisconsin in Madison. You can try to believe they aren't any good or untalented if you want, but that won't make it true. Sam Dekkar is probably the best player on either roster.

I too don't understand Buzzthis year. Bo seems to clesry coach up hiss players. They posy well in his system. MU is not playing well. They are under achieving. There is notrsnsition game. They seem disoriented and are playing to lose. Guess Buzz is not that good of a coach.

It was a terrible play because he had no chance to get it and took himself completely out of position. He's just not very aware as a defender right now. It'll come. Not there yet.

Disagree with you only because it was very late in the game and they needed the ball. For all you know buzz may have told him to get the ball at all costs. Plus it was a hustle play. He had plenty of other def problems, that wasn't one of them

Ok well I disagree, if I am coach I correct a lot of other problems he had before correcting a hustle play. Stupid argument anyway doesn't matter.

Yup! Dekker's the real deal. As much as many here want to believe that Wisconsin gets it done with a bunch of underachieving, no talent country bumpkins, it just ain't true.
Wisconsin has a player with outstanding talent and athleticism. It's okay to admit that.
Dekker has a winner's talent and demeanor. Very impressed with him overall.
