Post by: Tugg Speedman on December 07, 2013, 09:03:44 AM
So where does MU/UW rank among NONCONFERENCE rivalries?  I say top 5 every year.

Other biggies

Kentucky/Louisville
Georgetown/Syracuse (new this year)
Indiana/ND
Philly Big 5 (Penn, LaSalle, Temple, Nova, St. joes)
X/Cincy
KU/Mizzou
Harvard/MIT
Iowa/Iowa State

Others?

X/D****n over X/Cincy

Harvard/MIT?  This years score was 79-37.  MIT has a better chance of inventing and using Flubber to win their games.

No way. X/Cincy had haymakers thrown a couple years back. It's a war for the city.

ABD.

I've been to both games and disagree.  I also wouldn't call it a war for the city.  I was there for the 2001 riots, though  ;)

So a rivalry only counts if two teams are good this year.  Never mind they have played each other since basketball used peach baskets.

"Cincinnati--#1 in the country, #2 in the city."

As far as ranking non-con. rivalries, I would not put that near the top of the list.  I'd say BC/Harvard is a good one though.

Florida/Florida State could be another one.

I'd put it top ten for sure, top 5 some years.....here are some others (some are regional in flavor)

IU UK  (it will start up again when calmer heads prevail)
Georgetown Syracuse now becomes out of conference
Missouri Illinois is very big
UK vs Louisville is gigantic
Texas  Texas A&M
BYU Utah
Iowa Iowa State
Marquette ND
Marquette Wisconsin
Florida Florida State
Cincinnati Xavier
VCU Richmond
Houston Rice
Kentucky North Carolina
Tennessee Memphis
Notre Dame UCLA (not always played)
BC vs UMASS

Bleacher report names MU vs UW-madison as the 14th most nastiest college rivalry, but they are including conference rival games as well.  For out of conference they have ours 5th
