*cry*
that was the most tense moment of television in my entire life, i thought it was a joke at first when he put the GT hat on, oh well
For those not watching, he had an MU hat in the middle.
wow...honestly thought it was UNC or MU...
damn crappy damn
kicked.in.the.nuts.
Bleh -- I respect the kid for keeping his promises, following through on all his visits, not leaking anything or jerking the coaches around, but this one still hurts.
Shocked. Disappointed. Just doesn't seem right.
Alright then. TIME TO MOVE FORWARD.
Marquette has a Big East title to win this year!!!
wow. and we're left with nothing. i thought we had him after this weekend. i was sure of it.
well that ruins fall break...
The announcer said his family in the studio didn't even know. He kept it close to the vest. Althoug it sounds like he called all three coaches before the announcement.
I was thinking but I didn't want to say it for fear of a jinx, MU has two very fine point guards who could be playing next year. It wasn't clear to me that he would be best suited to play point with Mo Ack and DJ (possibly) still around. At GT it was very clear that he would be running the point from day 1 and that is the position he wanted to play. He is not stupid and he was very clear what he wanted and perhaps GT is the best fit from his point of view.
he wants to play right away and increase his chances to get paid as soon as possible is what i took from his news conference. cant blame the kid if thats what he wants.
He thinks he has a better chance of winning a national championship at the trade school on north avenue?!?! He wants to be a part of the Nerd Herd?? Come on Iman... 75% of the GTir fans have no clue who you are!
BTW... this is a big mistake on his part. If you're gonna go to school in South, you go SEC. Beautiful women in the SEC... have you seen the women at GT Iman???
Ouch! I really thought it was going to be MU. We still can't land the elite prospects. I guess it is back to the 3 star recruits for MU. This sucks. Not that we won't do well without him, but it would have been nice to land a big fish for a change.
Two silver linings:
1) At least he didn't go to Wisconsin.
2) He didn't spurn Marquette for a lesser Big East team. Imagine how UNC must feel - losing Shumpert to Georgia Tech must be a double gut-shot for Roy Williams and the gang....
Best of luck to Iman! Seems like a great kid, hope his career at Georgia Tech is everything he wishes for and more (unless they ever face MU).
There are still a lot of quality players out there that we are persuing....it's not like MU Madness had no returns! We still came out of that with Erik Williams who I think will be a beast for us. Back to the recruiting trail for Crean.

I agree. Had he selected UNC I'd feel even worse.
DEVASTATING. I just feel awful...and really feel for Crean and his staff. They were so invested with this kid.
Sad, sad, sad day for MU hoops. I know it's hard to see with all the preseason hype and rankings, but to say today's news is a let down, is a dramatic understatement.
What are you gonna do? Let's focus our attention on our other targets. This one hurts really bad. Shocked and dissappointed just doesn't cover it. I guess the Wade effect isn't as strong as we thought. God, this sucks!!
There is no silver lining and there are no moral victories in recruiting. You either close, or you don't. For whatever reason we can't close on the big dogs.
Won't be surprised when this happens next year with Taylor...
well.. at least we have Dry White Toast's press release on his dump to look forward to.. *sigh*
hey - isn't swopshire announcing on monday??
Any bets that Crean's already on the phone with Swopshire?
Bob S. was stunned too. He thought MU all the way. He even asked to double check. Iman brought up the fact that he wanted to play guard right away. The fact that MU has 5 on the roster now doesn't help him.
Losing the big guys makes this decision suck even more. Nick is going to be lonely next year.
Just watched the replay of the announcement... sounds like he wanted immediate playing time to showcase his skills to move on to the NBA. Not sure I really get his decision but oh well. This is a big blow to MU's recruiting efforts... we spent a lot of time trying to recruit him.
Jared Swopshire... Chris O'Tule... come on board!
This sucks mainly because when programs land the big time recruits the other pieces tend to fall in place in recruiting. This could have been that hug recruit for Crean that started an upward trend in recruiting for Marquette. Oden seemed to do it for OSU and now Georgetown seems to have the same thing going, just to name a few schools. This hurts more than just losing a good player, but the chain reaction of landing Shumpert could have been huge for this program. Too bad.
We need Buzz Williams' and Crean's magic with Otule to work wonders now.
MU is too good a program to not get someone to fill Iman's shoes. But, I can see his point where he wants PT right away. I'm sure if MU didn't have that problem two years ago we woudn't have gotten Dominic, Jerel and Wesley all in the same class.
i wasn't around all day and couldn't help but think about the announcement all day. i can't believe it. best of luck at GT mr. shumpert. are the ppl on the GT boards surprised? unc?

Here's the thing. While it sucks that we didn't land our #1 recruit keep in mind THAT MARQUETTE WAS COMPETING WITH UNC AND GEORGIA TECH FOR A BLUE CHIP RECRUIT! As of Saturday the kid was at our Midnight Madness event and one would imagine the decision came down to the wire. It says a lot about the visibility and the health of our program that a recruit the caliber of Iman Shumpert was considering us with our competition being UNC and GT. It's a simple fact that even a few years ago we most likely would not have been in the running for a recruit like Shumpert.

No, Drew committed to UNC.
