That author? John Pudner, MU '88 grad?
Never heard of him.
Every team except for DePaul in the kenpom top 100. They're at 132, and if they pick it up the conference will easily be #2.
What is the NBE?
Is that like the BE?
RPI has us 2nd, Big Ten 3rd....but the expected RPI has the Big Ten to finish #1 again this year and BE 3rd. Ratings at this point, way too early for much credence, however.
3-5 will be a mix between BE, Pac12 and Big12.
Hopefully, the BE can stay on top of those teams.
ACC will continue to be the best, and the B10 is strong this year. Bottom isn't as bad as it has been for them.

What matters most to me are the number of actual title contenders in a conference. The rest is just noise to me....especially this early in the season. Does our conference have a legit contender? I don't think so. The AAC has more than than the NBE

To early to say, but Nova has some nice wins so far.

Exactly why you keep the league at 10 teams. Previous years were always dragged down by the bottom 4 or 5 teams that got run over by the top 10 teams.

OTOH.. you need some teams to beat up on. Otherwise everyone finishes at .500, plus or minus, and the league looks mediocre.

That means when UNLV was dominant in the early 90s that the Big West was a top notch conference?

My post has the word "contenders" in it. I know....not everyone understands plural vs. singular. Then I asked if the conference even has one contender (singular).

contender for what? the whole shootin match or to be very competive? there are so many variables so early in the season. injuries, bad behavior, players having good/bad seasons, coaching... there is a lot of parity in college basketball today. i.e. the sleeper midmajors, etc
