This guy is no more a three point shooter than Chris Otule.
No way. He will shock us all one day but that day is not today. He is a streaky shooter that hasnt had a hot streak yet. Maybe after he transfers and Buzz lets him go hell get hot
Why apologize...this kid is a complete liability...this is a joke and embarrassing...
He couldn't get hot at the local rec league for kids 8-12.
It is actually the worst basketball player I have ever had the displeasure of watching at the college level.
And I am not limiting that to D1 college either.
Without Jake's 2 3s agains UNH Marquette would have been a joke and embarrassing. He is going to make some. Someday. Maybe
As of the half, he is 5 for 21 on the year from three. 24% With out UNH game, well, bad.......

Not to mention he will never take the ball to the hoop, so he is as one dimensional as you can get.

Man, just drilled two big ones.
Jake is 5 for 21 from 3 pt land this season through half-time of ASU
Added ... Jake leads the team in 3pt attempts
Two in a row!

LOOK AT THAT 2 THREES and a drive with a foul. You guys all attack him but he is doing what Buzz wants him to and that is why he is in there

Actually its passing up 3's and driving that bugs me way more than the missed 3s. Shoot the ball.
You knew once we start a thread ripping a guy he's on his way to be stud of the game.
Now can you guys tell me what stock to buy so I can short it and get rich.
At halftime I had real chile 83's post about how "Jake will light these guys up tonight" highlighted as one of the most off-base postings, after his first half 0-fer.
Offense from #12 - 3's from Jake - maybe there's hope.

I wouldn't use the unh game as a feather in jt's cap....he was t good that game and was probably a net negative.
Wow, 79Warrior feels dumb for that post.
Well, Jake clearly read this thread, poured in 16 in the 2nd half. Plus 5 assists.

I would need to see 2-3 more games like this to jump on that Jake Thomas bandwagon.
Big improvement in getting screens and kickouts for Jake. Expecting him to score under the offense the way it was being run just wasn't doing. He either isn't a part of the scheme or he is...in other words, he's a traditional, not a switchable and that needed to be an adjustment for him to have any success.
I think few on this board feel comfortable with the # of minutes Thomas is getting. If he is our starting 2 guard much longer, than we are in for a long season. Even if he hits some 3's, it doesn't make up for his defensive limitations

I don't think anyone's asking you to jump on a Jake bandwagon. That said, I am asking you and everyone else to acknowledge that Jake is in fact a better 3-point shooter than Chris Otule.

That is a very insightful comment. I had not thought of Jake's strengths as a traditional in that manner, he needs screens designed for him.

None of the guards behind him are better defensive options at this point. I will acknowledge that he isn't good enough to keep great athletes in front of him when he is defending on the ball, but he rarely has major lapses. I have no problems with him starting at this point.

Agreed. As a whole the spacing was much better tonight (at least in the 2nd half which is all I saw), and we were much more active off of the ball offensively tonight. If you ask me, not having Mayo
helped get the offense flowing tonight.

I think that's fair. The truth most likely lies in the middle-he isn't a 30 mpg player, but there is a role for him in the rotation.

He's one of the better defenders on our squad....and he scored 16 points. What more do you want from him?

Have a problem with the first point. In the first half, he was brutal defensively. He looked like he'd never played in a zone before. He was better in the second half, but still got beat off the bounce a few times.
I'm thrilled he hit some shots, but he's not a great defender by any means.

I don't think Jake's a great defender either, but who is better behind him? The freshmen? Not right now. Mayo? He's a better on ball defender, but he has also shown a propensity for defensive lapses.
Jake deserves to start right now if he continues to knock down shots. I do genuinely hope that someone surpasses him at some point, but I don't think we are doomed if that doesn't happen.

I saw one missed cue all game. One of the best we have at not guarding with his hands

Thomas is one of our best all around defenders. Watch him when he is not on the ball too... Everyone of our guys got beat off the bounce a few times. That is part of basketball. Overall he is an above average D1 defender.

Simply not true.
At best, he is average. He looked awful in the first half when they played zone. He had no idea where he was supposed to be.

I'm with forgetful on this one. Not the best on the ball defender but great off the ball. And he's fearless. He rushed in to be weak side help on Bachynski multiple times, even when it was obvious that there was nothing he could do. Love seeing that aggression on D
