Is 68% automatic? I think we can stop this silliness now...
Embarrassing to chant that at this point

It was always embarrassing
Hated it from the start. Idiotic.
Probably gave him some extra confidence when it was just one section but with the whole student section doing it I think it's probably distracting him.
Well he is good at sulking
Never was a fan of the chant. If he was 40 lbs lighter and quick jumper he would be going for the old fashioned three point play and not taking two. He really could write his own ticket if he got himself in shape.
Infairness, he's gotten slimmer since he got to MKE - his heredity probably has a lot to do with it. I'd be happier with an additional 20# since it seemed to come with FT% in the 80's.

Don't think his body could go down another 40 lbs.
Wonder if readin' "Grain Brain" is on Davante's agenda?
I feel like its in his head at this point. Put it on the shelve for now.
Need him to get back to being Big Smoove.
He was elsewhere tonight, not in the game.
The only thing automatic tonight seemed to be his disinterest in the game.
Yes, what really worries me is he had the Jamil type attitude today. Never seen that of him, why would this be? But, regarding the automatic chant he is the one that told the students to do it, and as long as he asks for it they should do it. I think it would be worse if he wants the students to do the chant and they don't do it.
As Gardner stood at the line for his first FT, CBSSports Network analyst Bob Wenzel called him a bad FT shooter. I laughed and told my wife Wenzel was an idiot. Garnder proceeded to make Wenzel look like he knew what he was talking about.
Ugh.
As bad as our perimeter players are, Gardner's play has contributed mightily to our offensive funk the last two games.
The chant now sounds ironic.

But you know what he was even worse from the field 1/6. So really the chant has nothing to do, must be something else. I'm going on a limb here, but could it be him being about 30 lbs lighter might throw off his moves and he needs to adapt? You know he might be some much quicker and that is thowing him off?
Funny. I was going to post that the embarrassing thing is only the upper deck automatic bro's do the chant while the rest of the student body does the lame arm finger thing.
The last thing I'm worried about is Davonte's FT's.
This is a silly thing to get all worked up about.

Who is worked up about it? It's a conversation. That's what a fan board is for.

If people are truly embarrassed, I would call that worked up.
Maybe they can chant SEN-IOR-IT-IS?
Stop the f-ing chant. It was stupid from the start and now it's not warranted. It's not like he's Novak stepping up to the line -enough is enough. Let the man focus.

This isn't "worked up"?
He likes the chant. If chanting is causing him to drop 15% on FTs, then he has serious problems. I hope we don't have to shoot FTs on the road!!
Just to clarify why automatic is chanted. I dont like it but Davante has personally said that he likes when the student section chants it. It has nothing to do with ruining his focus. He asks for it, end of story.
So by the logic of some on here:
"Jake told some of my buddies that we need to start chanting 'MVP!' when he's at the free throw line because it pumps him up and gives him confidence."
"Well Jake says he likes it - we gotta do it!!!"
I get it that Ox has said he likes it. I guess it's the students' preference if they want to come off as morons or not.
Not worked up - just my view. And I'm fully expecting this chant to continue.

"Disinterested" is exactly the word I was thinking of when I watched Gardner tonight. It was probably frustrated more than anything. I think it may be time for him to share the floor with Otule and play some high post.
"Fifty-fifty" would be a good replacement. Same cadence.
Motivate him by shelving the chant until he starts making his FTs again?
(any reason to get the automatic bros to stop that nonsense works for me)
Maybe he just needs to get a little before the games?
The past has shown us that if his offense isn't working, he disappears...a total non-factor. Why does this surprise anybody 3/4's of the way through his career?

I actually think that might help. Davante looks like he needs to loosen up a bit out there. Doesn't seem to be having fun. A "fifty-fifty" chant would probably at least get him laughing.

Better hope the new Silk offers student discounts.
I'm not sure why people are so critical of the chant. I think it is fun and as esard pointed out, it pumps Gardner up. It does seem a little silly now but I think Davante's free throws will come back to him. Stopping it may be more of a blow.
I really didn't see anything to make me think Gardner was "disinterested." I think he was frustrated because New Hampshire was able to play three guys in the paint at all times. Hard to maneuver in the post when defenders don't have to worry about an outside shot
