No way around it, yesterday was an absolute dumpster fire.
Now that we have established that...I think back to getting run off the BC court by Vandy or being outclassed in Gainesville or playing like sh!t in Baton Rouge or Green Bay. We have a coach who coaches for March. He doesn't go banner hunting in November. I wish my alma mater wasn't a punchline for a Nat'l TV audience but I'm over it. WIth Buzzard I am confident he'll get this fixed. Blind love, maybe, but I like the track record.
I think it is possible to do both. I don't think Thad Matta is banner hunting in November and is likely playing for a good result in March.

Thad Matta also has almost everyone back from an elite 8 team. We are replacing our entire starting backcourt.

No disagreement, my point is some teams can do both. Believe me, as you and most people know, I'm a guards guy and it has worried me from day one about our guards. Nothing has changed and quite frankly yesterday's game wasn't the only one....against Southern I thought we were weak as well. Grambling, I don't even know what to take away from that game because it is such a joke opponent.
Guard play has me very worried.
Chicos, it pains me to agree with you, but I agree that college basketball is a guard's game. This is why I said many times in the last few weeks that (A) I feared tOSU might roll us and (B) this would be a better team in March. I firmly believe that by March our freshman guards are going to be playing a lot. Yesterday was an EPA Superfund site. The most bothersome thing to me is how our senior frontcourt didn't compete for the entire game. Far worse than DeWilson being DeWilson, Jake not hitting 3's and Todd doing a whirling dervish imitation.

He would of played the freshmen in this game, if he was coaching for March. Which would you rather have. Crean who wins 90% of his games in November and probalby 50% starting March 1st or Buzz who for whatever reason has done reasonably well in NCAA tournament?

I bet Thad has lost on November and I know Buzz has won in November but my point is we have seen all of Buzz's teams get better; weather bad losses and improve. I am hoping this is another example.

We all hope that is the case
I know we have our concern about our guards; but the other Wilson did not play that well either. Hope we learn from this and get things turned around.
People are getting the Ohio State game wrong. Yes, the offense was a toxic mess, a dumpster fire, or whatever you want to call it. But, it was an outstanding defensive game. Yes, you need both, but on one side of the ball MU's play was all you can ask for. I will be very surprised, if Ohio State scores 52 points or less again this year.

And I'll be far less surprised if MU has more sub-50 point games.

I think that that possibility is remote, if it did happen, at Wisconsin would be the most likely scenario.

But, it was an outstanding defensive game.
Until the second half--I thought we looked great in the first half, but once we gave up that uncontested layup to Scott early in the second half, it seemed like the wind got knocked out of MU's sail. Didn't look the same on defense the rest of the way.

It's almost like a football team that wins almost exclusively with defense. The score is 0-0 or 3-3 or 6-3 but all the time relying on defense can take its toll and eventually something's gotta give.
Ohio State shot terribly in the first half, missing many of the same kind of wide-open shots we did. Sure, both defenses were good, but there were open 3s with nobody in sight, midrange jumpers, shots from the lane, nothing was falling.
When the guy hit the 3 to tie just before halftime, I turned to my buddy and said, "I hope that doesn't mean they're gonna start hitting some shots, because if they do, we're dead."
Ohio State started hitting its shots. Things opened up for them. We never hit any shots, so Ohio State packed it in tighter and tighter.
And we were dead.

With the addition of Pierce, will you start launching into a daily tirade about how the only thing separating us from a Final Four is an elite PG?

And defense comes first for Buzz - which is why he is starting Derrick & Jake. It's always been about "trust" for Buzz. Once he can trust the freshman guards on 'D', we will see more of them.

BS, we need to recruit a stud big!
I t was a home loss and we scored only 35 points.
However last year's 9 losses by margin
Florida 33
Louisville 19
Syracuse 16
Notre Dame 8
Georgetown 8
Villanova 4
Green Bay 2
Cincy 2 in overtime
Butler 1
LOL, Brew. Touche.
