@theIWB prayers go out to Homer and his family
Horrible news. Homer is as good a guy as you'll ever want to meet.
Prayers from here in Oklahoma for a full recovery.
Wow...what a tragedy. Thoughts and prayers to Homer and his family. He's so much a part of the Marquette basketball fabric and legacy.
This is in JSONLINE:
A 59-year-old Milwaukee man was seriously injured Wednesday morning during a car crash caused by a possibly impaired driver running a red light, police said.
The man was driving a Toyota Corolla east on W. Hampton Ave. about 10 a.m. when he was hit by another car traveling east on W. Fond du Lac Ave., according to a news release. He was taken to the hospital where he is in critical condition.
Witnesses told police that other driver, a 44-year-old Milwaukee man, failed to stop for a red light. Officers continue to investigate whether the driver of the Cadillac was under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the crash, the news release stated. | Nov. 13, 2013 3:02 p.m.

Damn, that sucks. After seeing him at halftime last night was reminiscing about sitting down at the bar with him in Lexington after the Davidson game and my friend asking him what his call was on Vander's game winner. He said it was, "They let him get a LAYUP?! WHY ARE YOU GUARDING JAKE THOMAS! If I'm guarding Jake Thomas I'm sprinting the opposite direction into the lane!" (Obviously that wasn't his call, but he was telling us what he was thinking.) He then got on his phone at our request and let us talk to Mac to try to get him out. Didn't work, but was more than happy to talk to us for quite some time, and was also more than happy to put the Butler fan in his place who was yapping about how they were on their way to becoming Duke with Stevens playing the roll of Coach K. Oops on that one, turns out Home Team was correct.
Prayers for Homer.
Horrible news. For all of our banter and disagreements over the trivialities of sports and other little things in life, moments like this are sobering. Sending my best to Homer for a full and successful recovery.
Wow....Prayers for Homer and his family....

Man .. Hampton and Fond du Lac .. I've driven through that intersection 100s of times.

This is just terrible news. Get well, Steve. Thoughts and Prayers are with you.
Cripes...seems like a great guy. Marquette is lucky to have him! I'd love to send a card if anybody gets info
Positive thoughts and prayers for you, Home Team.
Wow. Prayers for Steve and the True family...

Really terrible to hear. Prayers for Steve.

I was there that night...Homer went off script to "pull a stunt" that ended up making the MACC Fund an additional $50,000. This is not hyperbole, he is one of the best human beings I have ever met; just the nicest guy around.
Big time prayers for Homer. One of the best.
Wishing the best for Homer. A staple in the small world of MU basketball. He actually posted here a few times last season.
Homer and I grew up in the same town. We traded a few emails last year about it. Seems like genuine guy.
Homer, get well soon. You've got a victory to call on Saturday.
prayers coming up from indianapolis.
always appreciate his radio broadcast when i can't get games on tv or online.
get well soon, homer! #WeAreMarquette
Prayers and hoping he gets well soon. Love listening to Homer in radio bradcast.
Steve is a wonderful, righteous man. His broadcasting schtick isn't for everyone, but outside the broadcasting booth he is a man of great conviction. I pray that he will be OK.
I always loved Homers positive attitude. He answers every call on his radio show saying he is "living the dream!" The dude is always as cheerful as could be and I never heard one negative rant on his show or an MU broadcast, even during a loss. Let's hope that spirit helps in his comeback.

Milwaukee's angle streets are a great convenience, but also make for some of the most dangerous intersections. Though I suppose drunk drivers can have that impact on any intersection. My thoughts are with Homer.

From 2-6pm each day he went to work and did what he needed to do to make a living. It was the other 20 hours a day where I have known him and as you say, a man of great conviction. He gave of himself and used his "celebrity" as much as he could for countless groups around Milwaukee. Just a really, really good guy. God I hope he pulls through. Too good of man, too young, too much left to do.
Man, does this suck to hear. Praying for the best, love listening to Homer on the call, think he represents MU with pride.
"I spoke with Homer's wife, Nancy, tonight," Karmazin said. "She said Homer is doing pretty well and that doctors want to monitor his condition overnight. On behalf of the True family and all of us at ESPN Wisconsin, I'd like to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers."

Awwww baby (gotta say it like Homer) this is reassuring news. Homer is an MU institution. This is hopefully good news that will lead to a full recovery. Love that man.
The boys will be playing with added inspiration on Saturday.
Glad to hear the encouraging report. Prayers to Homer and his family. Never met him, but feel like I have- feels like he brings his genuine self to his broadcasts.
Homer is as much a part of the team as anyone. Our cheering Saturday is for a Fast recovery. We need him back soon!
Man, is that great news. "Homer is doing pretty well."
Gotta say, I've been thinking of this non-stop for the past few hours. So unfair, so maddening. 10am in the morning and wham, your life changes in an instant.
Topper
I am with you and cannot stop thinking about Home and his family. Glad to hear the positive news on the earlier post. I really wish that local news would have reported the positive news. TMJ4 had Homer as lead story at ten.
As Milwaukean, 2k miles away, he is a guy that brings me back to Milwaukee every time I hear his voice. Prayers for Steve.
Good news to hear Homer is doing well. When it comes to major trauma, Froedtert does a wonderful job. Watching their trauma teams work, the efficiency, the knowledge, and the speed they operate with is really impressive. Considering the type of injuries he likely sustained, he's truly at one of the best places in the country.
Fox 6 had this as one of their big stories at 10 as well. Was very upset to hear about this earlier today - hopefully he'll be all right and back for MU games in the near future.

I'm not 2k miles away, even though it occasionally feels that way, but agree that when I turn on 540 on Tune In radio in my car it feels like I'm right back there. The commercials for Saz's and Major Goolsby's and it feels like I'm on the 10th floor of Schroeder listening to 1130 while studying during road games. All it ever needs is George Thompson.
Unreal. I listened to Homer and Mac on the way home last night after working late last night and thought, damn, Homer even makes a scrimmage against Grambling entertaining. And over the years, there's no voice more reassuring than Homer's, even when a game goes south on us. Best wishes for a fully recovery Homer. Need you back baby.

Homer is the voice of MU. He is just as much a part of MU as coach Buzz or the individual players. Like everyone else posting, hope you have a quick recovery Steve.
I drive race cars.
Man this is awful. Sad it happens to anyone, but someone many of us know or are very familiar with. Really hope he will recover and get back to work :(
Was hoping for anything other than "head injury" - good to see that encouraging report, though. Hang in there, Homer.

One of the bigger problems is people drive ridiculously fast down Fon Du Lac in that area. I've been passed on the shoulder multiple times by people going at least 55 MPH.

God the Northwest side seems like a Cluster
Has anyone heard any updates?
Thoughts and prayers to you Steve!!!! Get well soon!!!
I am always a fan of how, even when MU is winning, if they aren't playing well, the tiniest amount of sarcasm/disdain slips into his voice. Prayers for Homer.
The 9:00 AM show on 540 this AM was a tone of he will recover / doctors wanted to observe him overnight. Hopefully that is the case and positive news!
My sincere hope is that Homer will feel well enough by Saturday to phone the pre-game broadcast for a couple of minutes. It would be great to hear his cheerful, upbeat voice banter a little with Jimmy Mac or exchange smart alec comments with Buzz. Then we'll know he's on the mend. Get better Hometown!
Get well soon Homer!

Right. Isn't "critical" condition basically the last level before you are dead? I don't remember how it works. But it seems kind of crazy to go from critical condition to walking around in 24 hours...
Anyway, I'm not going to question it. Glad to hear he's doing well!

Well, my guess is he went to critical initially because of the head trauma concerns. You don't screw around with head trauma.
Was listening to 540 and judging by sound of discussion Homer must be doing better.
No doubt some fine Marquette Nursing students are providing outstanding care to Homer out at Froedtert. The critical care floors there are filled with MU seniors doing their clinicals.
Hopefully he'll be "day to day" soon.

Well a lot of people are certainly critical of various aspects of the basketball program.
According to Dodds:
QuoteTypical Homer fun fact: after accident...Tire was found in back seat of his car...on lookers thought it was because of the severity of the crash...real reason...Homer was taking flat tire from son's car over to a tire place on Hampton to be fixed...if that is not classic Homer, I dont what is...
