St Johns lost to UW-Madison.
Georgetown on the ropes to Oregon.
Providence over BC in OT.
Xavier beat Gardner-Webb.
Villanova beat Lafayette.
Creighton beat Alcorn St.
Was really hoping either the Johnnies or the Hoyas would upset a team. Not the greatest of starts but at least Providence won and no one choked a buy game.

He may be a grumpy old man - but Bo vs. Lavin is a pretty big mismatch.

It must be St. John's has far more talent.

Athleticism does not equal talent.
St. john's doesn't have basketball skills they have athleticism and low BBIQ.
Disappointed we lost, but it was the first game, Josh Smith is a Beast and the Hoyas are going to be very good this year.
The Josh Smith - Devante Gardner matchup will be entertaining.

Couple years ago they just would've called it sumo wrestling.

Josh is a heck of a player, but he makes Davante look like Manute Bol
Otule will think guarding Josh Smith is just another scrimmage.

Not sure I agree with that. Dekker is a very good player. Wisconsin-madison has a few others that are nice players. I don't think we beat UW-madison this year.

I think there was some sarcasm there. Same old badgers, when they hit 3s (11-23 Friday) they're tough....when they don't they're average.
Seton Hall-Niagra with 73 fouls called tonight. Wowza

It's early, ridiculously early, but at the moment Marquette is #1 in the country in terms of getting to the line and #2 in the country in terms of keeping other teams off the line. At least for one game, Buzz is way ahead of the curve. I think he realizes just how big the changes in calling fouls is going to be this year, and has his guys searching out contact while defending without using their hands because until teams adjust, that's going to be a major factor in winning and losing games.

I was at a coaching clinic this fall with jeter, and he claimed that he didn't know how to coach defense with the new rules. Compare that to buzz's quote and attitude about the rule change, and that might be a big reason for the discrepancy. The rules are there and they have made it very clear they will enforce it. Coaches have to coach to the new rules and the players will adjust. It will get better as the year goes on.
