Good Day!
I need to buy my family gear for the OSU game.... is there a specific color that should be worn that day? What color are the student fanatic shirts?
The standard student color is gold. No word so far if there is something special planned for that day (like baby blue).
Frankly, I wish MU had more gold options for alumni. I have a gold print oxford I frequently wear. Years ago they did a solid gold oxford that my buddy has worn to every NCAA game he has attended in person with a perfect undefeated record. Sure the sweatshirt or polo is always an option but sometimes the situation calls for something a step up.
Gold. Always gold.

Just because you're not a student, doesn't mean you can't wear a gold t-shirt, sweatshirt or jersey.

If you're an adult, you should NEVER wear a basketball jersey to attend a game.

I have always been a fan of the MU striped rugby. What is the consensus on this style choice for the 40 year old MU hoops fan?

I usually go with the striped rugby too. I have a Brooks Brothers blue & gold wool sweater also.

He makes many as evidenced by our deep runs in recent years. Perhaps we should simply have Larry foot the travel bill. His shirt is one reason I KNEW Van was going to score on that final Davidson possession.
Games on Fox, must have Gold!
The blue and gold rugby is absolutely timeless and a great choice.
And it'll be absolutely wonderful to see Fr. Wild sporting the gold sweater. I hope the students give him a HUGE ovation.

Maybe not the best avenue of research for that question. I'd be willing to guess that Scoopers are a sartorially challenged bunch.
Get yourself 1 of the long sleeved Jordan brand shirts at the spirit store, any color. Stylish, simple, ballin', and has no age limits.
Gold sweaters is the best option.

If it ain't the blue and gold rugby, it's got to be gold.
The attire worn by those in the good seats includes yellow sweater, turtle-neck, tan slacks, and a gray/bald head. Hearing aide optional.

I wear jerseys as well, on occasion. Is there some unwritten law that states I can't wear jerseys that I paid good $ for?

Yup. +1.
You think the guy who started this thread thought it would get to 2 pages? And that's WITHOUT a mention of Tom Crean. Ooops, until now.
Has it been established that the OP is a Marquette fan or tOSU fan? Shirt color is dependent on knowin' that, hey?
I am making the trip to MKE for that game and am starting to put serious thought into my wardrobe for that day. Last year I went with the yellow throwback tee over white long-sleeves and was one section over from the students. I kind of felt like a wannabe student (or at least making it too obvious).
The rugby shirt had its heyday around 1993 and was kept alive by the band for far too long. I do find that the Champion sweatshirt over the turtleneck with khakis and loafers is embarrasingly common too - sometimes paired with a very stiff looking blue and gold "College of Engineering" baseball cap. Just keep in mind that this game will be nationally televised and people all over will say that people in Wisconsin haven't updated their wardrobe in 20 years, which is somewhat true.
I love my royal blue "Warriors" t-shirt with the Indian head, not because I really care about the name but I just think it's cool. My wife says its getting a bit snug but I don't care.
A little help for you all:
If you are over 40 - Navy sport coat, white shirt, yellow vest, khakis, and casual allen-edmonds.
If you are under 23 - 40 - Marquette sweatshirt and jeans.
If you are 18 - 22 - It does not matter, probably something gold.
If you are 17 and under - Marquette basketball jersey or t-shirt.

Turtleneck is a no-go for any and all situations. In fact, the only worse than a grown man wearing a jersey with a t-shirt under it is a grown man wearing a jersey with a turtleneck under it.

My daughter wears them every game. She was worried that she was 'under dressed' when she got invited up to a particular skybox for halftime lunch at a game last year. "Honey, that's what you're supposed to wear!"

I have worn the same outfit since ive been a freshman. Havent seen them lose at home yet. (I missed the Vandy game so im convinced it was because I wasnt there.) Navy blue jersey, gold shorts (both authentic) and blue and gold striped knee high socks. Im way to superstitious now to change it up.

I see no problem with repping your team with a jersey. As everyday wear? No, but if you are watching the game or attending, absolutely. Sorry if that's a little too blue collar for y'all
Basketball jersey's are great for music festivals. Plus, it's always nice to have someone give you a Marquette shoutout

GTFO with grown men wearing bball jerseys.
That's baloney/bologna.
I think the winters have gotten to your heads or something.
Basketball jerseys are ALWAYS acceptable (preferably with a t-shirt underneath) at games.

Obvious Midwest. The dress code in the Northwest is different:
Over 40: Arc'teryx Down Vest, Patagonia Fleece Top, North Face Goretex Pants (zip leg), Asolo Hiking Boots
23-40: Arc'teryx Down Vest, Patagonia Fleece Top, North Face Goretex Pants (zip leg), Ahnu Shoes
18-22: Arc'teryx Down Vest, Patagonia Fleece Top, North Face Goretex Pants (zip leg), Birkenstock Sandals w/ Ragg wool socks
Under 18: Arc'teryx Down Vest, Patagonia Fleece Top, North Face Goretex (zip leg), Keen Shoes
Jerseys at games are always good, the sweater vest is only if you're old enough for your kid to walk into the game with you. I would like to recommend no undershirt for both situations though
I understand where the "no jerseys for adults" comes from: the fact that most adults in America are fat. Perfectly reasonable. But since I don't have that problem, I proudly wear my Jimmy Butler jersey to every game.
Anyone who isn't a coach or broadcaster but still wears a suit or sportcoat to a game needs to take himself less seriously (sole exception: entertaining clients in the box). Anyone who wears a sweater vest in any circumstance needs a wardrobe consultant (sole exception: Fr. Wild).

Anything goes at MU games. ZFB wears an old t-shirt a gal at the Top Hat Lounge gave him. It's white (size small) but there is a large yellow stain on the right side that is almost golden (beer or urine - ZFB isnt' sure).
I wear warmups everywhere. I will rock a jersey too from time to time. I am all about comfort. Nike Elite socks, color coordinated too.

MU Fan in Connecticut rather look good than be good in his Brooks Brothers.
In general I agree that you should skip the sportcoat. But about 5 years ago I was at the Big East tournament and showed up about 10 minutes after tip-off for the first game of the evening session (MU was in the late game). I had come from a meeting so was in full suit, but managed to throw on a MU baseball hat on the way. I had cultivated a contact in "VIP services" at MSG, so she met me at the door, handed me a media guide and escorted me to a courtside seat along with a security guard. Pretty cool feeling to see the looks from the guys with Rutgers, Seton Hall and UConn lapel pins stand up to let me through.

Dissing sweater vests?
Now you've gone too far.
Despite Rick Santorum's best efforts to spoil the fun for everyone, sweater vests can be awesome.
