Title: Buzz & Co. in NYC
Post by: Blue Horseshoe on October 16, 2013, 08:38:45 AM
Glad they stopped by Value Village before media day. Not sure if they will have time to pick up something that fits while in New York.

Those may or may not be functioning eyeglasses. I understand a trend these days is to wear expensive designer frames with non-refracting glass. In the ultimate absurdity, kids are putting in their contacts then donning a pair of "fashion" glasses. At the same time, in other parts of town, people are investing in Lasik.

Agree that all the boys are looking mighty sharp.  IMO, a well-tailored suit is the third-sexiest thing a guy can wear (behind 1. Military dress uniform and 2. Tuxedo).

On the downside, Jamil is also looking a bit like the tallest member of the Nation of Islam.

It's not about the money. In fact, they would save money on tailoring by purchasing something that fit better off the rack. Aside from some minor mistakes (buttoning the bottom button on the jacket, tie length too short) it's all about fit. Think about it, they look more ready for the 8th grade dance and less like D-1 athletes presenting themselves in front of the conference.

I'm a little disappointed that the shoes are cut off in the picture. Based on the top half I would not be surprised if there is at least one pair of square toed shoes. Square toe shoes are the absolute worst. They don't need to be showing off a double monk strap or mixing textures, but a little polish goes a long way on even an inexpensive pair of shoes.

It's better to draw inspiration from 1987 rather than fit like 1987.

Someone has never gone suit shopping with a tall person before  ::)

I am "only" 6' 6" tall, and buy suits in not just Long, but Extra Long.  The sleeves need to be lengthened from 1-2 inches (depending on the brand) for them to fit properly.  This sometimes requires the tailor to add additional lining fabric as there often is not enough there.

The idea that someone who is taller than I am and probably has longer arms can just pick up an off the rack suit that comes even close to fitting properly is silly.

Guarantee Jordan spent a fortune on this

Those are Dickey's, not turtlenecks. Thoughts on sweater vests?  Golf attire in the winter is so out of style.

As for suits, who wears them now-a-days?  The only suits I see are on the soccer moms at the mall--of the "stretch" material.

Turtlenecks are functional if you are participating in something outdoors in the fall/winter (skiing, ice fishing, hunting, etc.).

If you walk inside after participating in an outdoor activity, feel free to proudly display your t-neck.

However, if you are going to a basketball game, indoors, I suggest that you wear something else.

(and yes, that include mock turtles too).

I have never, in my life, understood men who wear turtlenecks. Scarves also annoy me, particularly when men leave them draped around their necks even after removing their coats. Why not just go ahead and put a bow in your hair?

Turtlenecks are fine

As you know, Buzz wore that as an homage to Majerus. When it comes to somebody of Rick's proportions, anything goes...except scarves.

I have never, in my life, understood men who wear turtlenecks. Scarves also annoy me, particularly when men leave them draped around their necks even after removing their coats. Why not just go ahead and put a bow in your hair?

Well, it's a functional piece of clothing, so t-necks are fine by me.

I just think it looks dorky to wear one indoors. Same goes for dudes wearing stocking caps indoors.

Scarves. Meh. Whatever. I don't wear them, but again, I can see the functional value. Just don't wear one indoors.

Correct, he did and he has worn them since as well.

To each their own, I don't see an issue.

Some people can pull it off, some can't.  Rick was a big guy, but Steve Jobs was skinny and he pulled it off as do many others.

Blue Horseshoe's Vision of Masculine Sartorial Splendor:

How does a discussion on the length of a tie has anything to do with masculinity or the military? Well, I guess masculinity in some regard because it is male oriented. You brought up the military.

For what it's worth, the military seems to be on my side about the length of a tie for their dress uniform.

I could not agree more with your sentiment on the Blue Horseshoe-favored scarf-sporting GQ Fashionista . But let me assure you, AFSOC TACPs wear scarves and do so without the least hint of Vagisil.

Technically I had only seen 6 real birthdays when I got married, but we have 37 years loggged.  Funny things happen at those Mount Mary Octoberfests!

I know, it's emasculating to wear a suit and tie into the office. It's so annoying getting compliments from women. Women with real vaginas. I just can't get over how super gay it is that I don't carry around a big heavy gun for living.

Good for you!

Turtlenecks (not mock ones) are excellent for extending fabric over your nose and mouth to filter the air after your Bradley Center neighbor had too many nachos at halftime.

What a thread.

Anyway, looks like I need to start wearing a scarf to games this year. If your looking at me funny I'll know it isn't cause you like men, but rather your an muscooper who disapproves of scarves in the BC and read this thread... But I guess if I just came from battle and I'm fully dressed in uniform, it's okay to have a scarf on?   Which will mean that the guy battle ready with a scarf is either me or keefe.

BTW: the MU seniors look great. Ready to take on Wall Street. And, go custom, not off the rack if it's an option financially.

So, if I have this correct, no turtle necks or scarves in the BC, unless  you are Mike Brey or Keefe with a matching pair of aviator goggles.

I hear that at the Kohl Center, berets are most welcome.

Scarves are fine. I'm just saying take the damn thing off with your coat. Don't stand in line waiting for a beer pretending you forgot there's a scarf around your neck for no reason at all.
