NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Pelicans announced today that the team has waived forward Lazar Hayward.

Hayward, a product of Marquette, has appeared in 72 career NBA games with the Minnesota Timberwolves and Oklahoma City Thunder. The 6'6", 225 pound forward holds career averages of 2.9 points, 1.3 rebounds, and 0.5 assists per game in 15.4 minutes. He has appeared in two preseason games with the New Orleans Pelicans and totaled two points in 15 minutes of action.

The five year pro was drafted 30th overall by the Washington Wizards in the 2010 NBA Draft.

5 years?  2010-2011, 2011-2012, 2012-2013, 2013-2014

Either way, hope he can latch on somewhere yet.

Ha!  Yeah I was going to make the same post.  I think Lazar's NBA career might be over, but there are obviously plenty of other opportunities to play somewhere else.  Honestly, I think Zar would make a good addition to any coaching staff.

Some great college players simply aren't NBA pros.

Given his body and skill set, I'm amazed that Lazar was drafted in the first round and has stuck around earning good money this long.

Hope he gets to do what he wants (even if it's overseas) for as long as he wants to do it.
