Oh please end this obsession with side profiles of mean-looking animal mascots.

He doesn't even look all that mean, just....focused.
Really wish they would have just went back to the pissed off bluejay in the sweater.
It needed an update - though it's design isn't groundbreaking and probably won't last no more than 15-20 years.
*Edit: I'm also wasting time watching the Creighton unveil. Sheesh
Not groundbreaking, but I approve. The "Jays" monogram looked so out of place with the rest of the conference, as discussed here:

So they took Toronto's logo
New court design. Definitely an improvement over the "Jays" logo.

Agreed. The Jays logo looked too much like part of a baseball uniform. Actually surprised the court does say "bluejays"...thought they were going to pull a Devil Rays to Rays kind of thing.
But where did that "C" come from though? Is that new too and something Creighton is going to push more and more? When Marquette added the ugly (and 10X worse than this) angry eagle they pretty much moved everything to using the MU monogram.
Still, giving up on classic Billy is just sad. It's one of the few classic 50s-style mascot logos that survived. I think updating that wouldve been a much better long-term branding. Side-profiles of animals are just the worse and haven't been "cool" since Kansas State updated theirs to the Powercat (which is essentially a copy of Iowa's, but still looked so much different than normal logos like that).
KU is the only one I can think of that has something similar (though its been updated much more recently).

Still so much better than this monstrosity.

Never understood why we ditched the old eagle logo which at least looked distinguished.

All I need is a cartoon or picture of a Golden Eagle eating a Blue Jay
Stick a maple leaf on its ear and this let's play ball. Toronto may cite TM infringement.
Better than the Jays logo they had. But I much prefer the angry jay in the sweater.

There's a very good and subtle reason why you almost never see the eagle logo, which is also the same reason they ditched the old eagle logo.

Because everybody hates it?
With so many logos and mascots used to death, it's probably getting to the point where it's tough to produce a legitimately original logo.
All the more reason I think Marquette should drop Golden Eagles completely and just go with Marquette. No Warriors, no Hilltoppers, no Golden Eagles, no Gold, just Marquette. Our marketing already does that for the most part (how many new shirts still prominently feature the GE logo?) so why not make it official and just be Marquette?
Really should have done a better job stealing Toronto's logo

They just reversed direction.

Because it removes the importance from a nickname that's not the most beloved thing in the world.
At least they didn't use a snarling beak with human teeth underneath it, i.e., Louisville. Beaks can't snarl and birds don't have teeth. If you are going to add elements to your lame bird profile logo that don't naturally exist, at least use something cool like lazer beam eyes or fire-breathing nostrils or a machine gun turret on top of the head.

Well yeah, but what the hell was the reason for the rebranded eagle regardless? If they weren't going to use either, why did they spend anytime changing it?

+1
For the kids!
When will Southern Miss get around to suing Marquette so we have an excuse to get rid of the new GE logo?

Because eagles were rightfully offended and they thought it was racist?
