ND football coach Brian Kelly held his weekly presser today. He said it's possible that the Navy and Air Force games could be cancelled if the shutdown continues on (his point is it's a legitimate open question).
ND plays them back-to-back so they could have a three week layoff in the middle of the season, and lose a home game.
ND haters ... ready, set go ...
Since they have lost twice already, and likely a third against Stanford, they are not going to be playing any bowl game that I care about...so I'm good.
This is what happens when you are too important to join a conference.
I thought they got all those guaranteed games from the ACC.
I don't really care either way. But it would be funny. Especially because those are probably the 2 games they were counting on as sure wins.
It would be even funnier if missing out on those 2 wins cost them bowl eligibility, but they will probably still make it.
Boo f-ing hoo, Notre Dame. Air Force and Navy are actually scheduled to play each other in 4 days, potentially with bowl-eligibility on the line (for Navy, at least). I don't hear them crying.
Finally someone exposes the real suffering caused by the government shutdown.

Because nobody started a thread about it?
"It's going to be a setback of the highest order if this game doesn't happen," said Navy AD Chet Gladchuk.

Right. I'm sure they are adequately upset about it.
Get around it. I hiked in Great Smoky Mountains today and will for the rest of the week even tho' it is barricaded at all entrances.

Well, I guess that now there is one more reason

Brand, I am officially extremely jealous. The Smokies are beautiful this time of year. Only better time is in about 2 weeks when the colors have changed more.

Except we didn't have to knock down barriers. We've been coming here for 25 years so we probably know more back ways into the park than most of the rangers.
Well, not so fast, the game might go on, see

Evidently no government money is involved in paying for these games as there are private foundations paying the bills.
DOD is possible guilty of playing politics with football Saturday.
Money quote:
"The Naval Academy Athletic Association is a private organization not funded by the government. Gladchuk said the Air Force-Navy game could be held without any "appropriated funding." Air Force recently created a similar athletic association that operates using private funds, donations and revenue from intercollegiate contests.
"We could run our entire athletics program and conduct events as we always do without any government funds," Gladchuk said. "In talking to the Air Force athletic director, their football team could execute the trip without government funding."
Asked why the Department of Defense was suspending intercollegiate athletic contests if government funds are not required, Gladchuk said he was told it was about "optics."
"It's a perception thing. Apparently it doesn't resonate with all the other government agencies that have been shut down," Gladchuk said."

Yeah, the color is much better in a couple weeks, but we like this time because the crowds are much smaller. Plus, we stay on the Townsend side of the Smokies, so a lot of peace and quiet. Did a 6-mile hike today and saw one other group of 2 people - that was it.
My favorite Domer story was when ND got wind late of the Catholic 7 stealthily splitting off with class and behind the scene openness with its still BE partners--and ND wanted to butt in line to expedite their exit. Answer back was "take a number and wait your turn. asswipes, this isn't the ACC football line." BlackJack was beside himself.

Battle of the uniforms. Jeez......
Turn on FOX Sports 1 and check out Baylor's helmets. Wow.....
ND's unis look like a pile of vomit after a night a margaritas and a Chicago dog with the nuclear green relish on top.
Note...that relish is pretty tasty.
