Title: Yahoo ranks MU #15, gives best- and worst-case scenarios
Post by: MU82 on October 01, 2013, 10:29:28 AM
http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/ncaab-the-dagger/dagger-preseason-top-25-best-case-worst-case-130015344--ncaab.html

I might quibble a little with a point here or there, but overall this is a pretty sound thesis.

What?  Now the lame-stream media is talking about Hiroshima?

If the worst case still invloves making the NCAA tournament, you have a good team.

Hence the top 25 preseason ranking...

I could live with this ranking.  The worst case scenario would suck but I think we'd survive.

I want to go on record and say I don't think Buzz is going anywhere after this season, even if the Texas job opens up.  Maybe I've re-read the Paint Touches series on Buzz too much, but I think he is here to stay for a while.  I like the cut of his jib.

That preseaon 3 ranking last year for Kentucky didn't get them in the tourny.  :D

The media certainly is not on to Steve Taylor

Well, to be fair, the guy didn't do a whole lot last year, and has been hurt for a lionshare of the offseason. I expect big things from Stevie T this season, mainly because he showed flashes of what he could potentially be last year, but the fact that the media is not bowing down to him is not hard to figure out.

I think the write-up on MU was fair.

How do you think Rick Barnes feels about our write up in this article?

I think Rick Barnes has no idea this article exists unless somebody shows it to him.

Just showing that because someone predicts your worst case scenario to be making the NCAA Tournament over a month before a game is played does not make your team a good team. Look at all of the top 3 teams. Their worst case scenarios are Sweet 16 or better. Do you think this article last year read: "3. Kentucky. Worst case scenario: The team doesn't gel and they lose in the first round of the NIT at home." I doubt it, but could be wrong.

It DEFINITELY didn't say "Noel blows his knee out."

A #15 preseason ranking sure beats last years predictions when they were nowhere near the top 25. Of course MU did better than expected (again) when they went to the elite 8. The team is reloading and the guard play can take them to the next level but it sure would have been nice to have Blue one more year.

Worst case: No tournament, Best case: Final Four with a player on the All-Tournament team.

I thought we received votes in both preseason polls last year.

It's not like Noel was the only decent player on the team.  And they weren't exactly meeting expectations before that, either.

Entering last season, Marquette was ranked #34 in the AP poll and #36 in the coaches poll.

So if we are ranked #15 this year, we must be going all the way.
