Why they're here: Buzz Williams has earned plenty of respect for what he has done since taking over five years ago. Williams is already regarded as one of the top young coaches, but where he's not getting as much credit is for what he's done as a recruiter. Maybe this year's heralded five-man class, which was ranked 11th in the country, was overlooked. Marquette may not get blue-chip guys, but Williams brings in primarily four-year players who have a chip on their shoulder and develop in their time on campus. --Jeff Goodman
What could change: The Golden Eagles are primed to make a big splash in the new Big East, with a great frontcourt and that typically tough, physical style of defense. If they are able to make themselves the power team in this "new" league, then it could really give a boost to a program that is already on the upswing. --Miles Simon
Name to know: Buzz Williams. We tried to avoid naming head coaches for too many of these categories, but simply put, Williams is Marquette basketball. The Golden Eagles play as hard as any team in the country because the players trust and believe in the hyperkinetic Williams. He is a terrific evaluator of talent and he recruits players who fit his personality -- he is part old-school and part father figure. As long as Williams is head coach of the Golden Eagles, they will be a top-20 program. --Seth Greenberg
Just to play the advocate, MU was ranked 8.1 in coaching while IU was 7.3 ;D
Aw, crap. Here we go.....
So they rate MU recruiting at 6.8 and VCU at 7.6? ::)

Why aren't the Indiana Hoosiers ranked higher than #13? Their coach is rated 23rd of the 25 schools listed, ahead of only Pastner and Alford. LOL
Notre Dame at #20? I can't make any sense of that.
Georgetown #15 Don't understand why they have Wisconsin and Gonzaga ahead of us though.

MU tied with ND and ISU on recruiting and behind Wichita St, VCU, Oregon, Wisconsin, and Gonzaga?
Honestly, the Notre Dame love is beyond my comprehension. They had Austin Carr in the late 1960s, they bracketed the UCLA 1971-74 winning streak and they made the 1978 Final Four.
Since 1979's Elite 8 appearance, they have appeared in the Sweet Sixteen 3 times (1981, 1987 and 2003). Otherwise, if they are in the tournament, they don't make it to the second weekend. It is a joke.

Well if you take a look back at class rankings since 2007 (when ESPN started doing them) Bo has landed a ranked recruiting class once. That was the 25th ranked class for '13.
So he isn't really killing it on the recruiting trail.
How do we have a 6.8 for recruiting? Tied for last? Really? Did they ever think to stack our classes up against any of these other schools? So we are getting less-regarded recruits than VCU, Wichita State, and Wisconsin? We may not be Kentucky, but Buzz has landed at least one consensus top-100 every year he's been here. I'd be curious to see how many of the programs rated higher than us in recruiting have done that, or had a single class on par with either our 2010 or 2013 classes.
Our current talent is also 3rd worst on the list, with only WSU and Maryland behind us. More of the typical underrating Marquette's players, saying they are only successful because of Buzz and because they're "scrappy"?

In all fairness most of the 2009 an 2010 classes left even though they were awesome. But I agree overall when you have jamil, Juan, Taylor, Johnson, burton and Wilson all four stars and McKay a Juco all American it's fair to say we have talent. I mean this isn't the 2009-10 or 10-11 teams that were truly scrappy and had barely any highly rated talent.
There is a reason I don't read many ESPN articles these days. If this is really about 'futures' then Marquette's is extremely bright. Aside from the 11th ranked recruiting class, we already have two excellent commitments coming down the pipeline afterwards. Assuming Buzz sticks around there is no reason that a few teams should be ranked ahead of us.
VCU? Get the hell out of here.
Oregon? AYFKM?
