Post by: ChitownSpaceForRent on September 25, 2013, 10:55:48 AM
Woke up two hours earlier then I had to to buy season tickets right as they went on sale today. Price was $99. Curious to know what the season ticket prices were when you all were in school and how you went about buying them. I know the fanatics website isnt that old.

'79-'83 Lottery system and you chose one of two itineraries A or B. Can't remember the price! We use to sneak in into the other itinerary games using unused winter break game tickets, but had to sit on the steps. Did someone win the free ticket contest?

I had a valiant effort. Hit the backboard and shot off the front of the rim.

When I was in school I was using my family's season tickets. In 1975 the tickets cost $5.50 with no mandatory donation. The same quality seats today require a $600 per seat mandatory donation and the season tickets are are $601.92. In comparison tuition per semester without room and board just under $2,000. My last year at MUHS, I think my tuition was around $630. I heard that it is now about $8,000 a year. You should fear the infaltion that will sooner or later rear its ugly head, because of the fed printing money to buy back treasuries.

I feel like in my five years here tickets have been as high as $110 (two years ago or last year?) and as low as $95 (09-10?).  I'm honestly wondering why they moved the price down this year.

MUHS was $4000 in the early 90's and is over $11,000 now.

Obviously, putting the price at $99 rather than a 3 figure # is a marketing ploy...

When I was @ MUHS in the early 60s,  tuition was $250 up to $300 by the time I graduated.

'78-'82

$13.00.

Can't verify it was that low all my years, but in that neighborhood.  May be it was the year where only 1/2 season was included.

The tickets were only a couple bucks each but the 12 days spent camping out endowed them with the gritty earnest feel of accomplishment.

So they make students buy them even if they don't want to go to games?.Or you don't think they factor the price in the tuition?

I don't know, I did not think that in depth about it.

Does anyone have a rough idea of what box seats cost at an MU game? Namely, for the ohio state game. Are we looking at $500 or $5000? I honestly have no clue at all.

'03 grad and they were $55 all four years.  Best value was that Muphy's had $1 pitchers with every student ticket stub in '02 and '03....we'd spend the second half of the games harassing freshmen and sophomores for their ticket stubs.  I think 6 of us got enough tickets one game, that we each threw in 5 bucks, got 30 pitchers, set-up on the foozball table to hold court and pass out beer to all the women.  Most nights we kept in much more reasonable, 10-12 pitchers  ;D

We did this too. The bars eventually wised up and asked for an ID that matched the name on the ticket (this was after tickets had converted to electronic with the names on them, not the old paper stubs), thus assuring 1 pitcher per person.

I know for a suite that holds 15-20ish people, you are looking around 2,000 - 2,500 or so depending on game and food, bev packages.
