Title: This should get more students to games
Post by: Stronghold on September 18, 2013, 05:58:54 PM
Per email from MU.

WIN FREE FANATICS TICKETS!
On Tuesday, September 24, Marquette Athletics will be at Central Mall from
10 AM - 3:30 PM, with a chance to win free Fanatics tickets. Marquette students will have a chance to shoot a 'half-court shot'. Every student that makes the shot will win free Fanatics tickets for the 2013-14 season.

A lot more students should have tickets this year.

All in all I think it's a cool idea.

Students will go anyways. Lots of Saturday games means more kids.

That is a really fun promotion.  Kudos to the whoever came up with the idea.

I've got this in the bag.  About to go to the plex everyday and practice my half court shots.

So, you don't have tickets.  So many things now make sense. ;D

And it's the day before tickets go on sale, so they get to have a giant ass billboard next to the hoop reminding even the people who don't have time to give it a whirl.

Student tickets don't even go on sale until next week.  Would I hold off buying them for a couple of days to see if I could win them first?  Hell, yeah.

This. I tried to buy some earlier and they said student tickets weren't available until Sept. 25.

In my time at Marquette, some of which was spent working in the Athletic Department, I never heard of a lack of tickets as a cause for student attendance.  Tickets are both available as well as generously priced.  The issue of getting students to the BC is one worth taking a look at, but tickets are not the problem.  Cool, fun promo, but unfortunately not going to get more students to games.

Student ticket sales are down each of the last two years, per Broeker.

Getting students there is a problem? We have buses and it's like a 10 minute walk, or even better a 2 minute walk if you take a limo to 7th and wells and then walk.  I mean you could live on campus at certain schools and it be a 30 minute walk to get to games also on campus.  I think distance is ok.  (though I'd love to have the AL expand and have games there)

Or don't assign HW on the weekends when there's a basketball game?!

It works for my students...
...in an elementary school...
...in California...
...who don't even know who or what Marquette is. ;)
