Anyone else picturing a bad ass bags board??
Never been a better basketball floor.
Old school is the new wave!
Here's a couple classic photos of the floor back in the day ...
I wish that Marquette could have retained the concept of the counter-posed "M's" on their new floor at the Bradley center and simply changed the 'MECCA' at mid-court to 'Marquette'. But I'm sure there probably would have been trademark/copyright issues with that. All I know is that the floors at the Bradley center have always been very bland and boring by comparison.
Another cool photo of the MECCA designer as well as a more reasonably sized version of the Butch Lee photo...sorry about that.

Never got into that whole "bags" thing. Very "Big Ten"/WIAC for me. I much rather play Washers or just sit down and drink

There's a bags "thing"?
Bags, washers, bocce, jarts, etc. are all basically the same thing. Something to throw around when drinking. (Except that jarts are outlawed tools of death...)

Oh come on.
I remember when the BC opened and they came out with a floor that was green and gold. (Bucks, MU compromise.) It was dull as dull could be. At least MECCA was unique.

Well, it was certainly unique, but still ugly. To each his ow, I hated that floor as it was distracting. Personally, I'd like for all floors to be standard ala the NCAA tourney. More interested in the game.

Wow you're the worst.
I refused to play bags during once because the board was a Badger bags board.

outlawed tools of death = FUN!!
That floor is hideous. I can respect the history of what happened on that floor, but the design is hideous.

Old school jarts were fun, except for the time that I partially impaled my little brother with one. The new ones aren't nearly as cool, but I completely understand the change.

No love for the testicle toss?

What is a Jart (A little before my time)
Contraction for a jagoff's fart
A jart is a shart while wearing jorts
I walked on the floor tonight. It looks great!

Lawn darts. I have some in my garage that I'm holding onto in case I ever need to kill a grizzly bear.

An efficient and effective method for eliminating the neighbor's annoying dog.
Just sayin'

Indeed, the Jart method would have more panache than this guy:

Hate to be a killjoy but there was not a whole lot of history on that floor. The floor was installed at MECCA in time for the November 1977 start to our national championship defense. Well, we know what happened there.
The period between 1979 and 1986 coincided with some of the worst Marquette basketball played since Al was hired.
I know the floor is artistic, but if we have the choice of keeping it and risking what we had between 1979 and 1986 or burning the damn thing, then burn the damn thing.

Bucks had a good run on that floor.

My bad. I thought it was earlier in the 70s, including our title run.
Then I really have no reservations to trashing it.
