Per our Scout board:
Multiple sources have confirmed that Cordell Henry will be named a Graduate Assistant coach at DePaul in the coming weeks.
Don't know if you saw this.
Oh well, unnatural carnal knowledge that.
Interesting I suppose that's probably a better graduate assistant than most of the other schools have.
I think Cordell was a very underrated player for MU. That 02 team was stacked.

Cordell was definitely a good one and had a good career at MU. Hope he does well.

I'm surprised he isn't going to Green Bay to coach with Wardle and Barone.

Was this meant to be sarcastic?
If not, I'd be surprised if anyone was jumping at the chance to go to UWGB right now. Not to mention, why would he go to a Horizon League program as opposed to a Big East program in his hometown?

I'd assume he'd get a real coaching gig up at UWGB as opposed to a graduate assistant role.
Great that Cordell is getting in the game. Unfortunate that he's doing it at DePaul.

Starting your career in your hometown of Chicago at a high D1 program with nowhere to go but up (or sideways) seems like a pretty good gig.

I would assume he is working towards an advanced degree at DePaul, hence the title.
Pat Kennedy once said that recruiting Imari Sawyer over Cordell was the biggest recruiting mistake he ever made. And he lost Dwyane Wade to Marquette.
Good for Cordell. Good to see him back in the game.

Ahh, that makes sense :)
Cordell was ALL GRIT at MU.
Good luck to him at DePaul.
I hope he doesn't create a Chi-town pipeline to DP.
Interesting that you said that. As Henry has been an assistant at Whitney Young for a couple of years. Can't be all that bad to give a protege of Slaughter a Grad Position.
Just saying...

Wasn't there a thread a couple of years back about Cordell working with a young phenom in Chicago? Or was that Mo Acker?
I just assume that this means we will see 400% more teardrop floaters from the Blue Demons in the next few years.

Murray, any way you wanna define it, Acker was no phenom.

It was Mo's godfather's son.

It was a shame that Kennedy ran out of cash and couldn't pay Wade.

Good, so we're still in the running for Jaylin Fleming.
Interesting aside, the article refers to the fact that DePaul had just offered an eight grader. I believe that the guy DePaul had just offered was Okafor.

Jeeze I forgot about Jaylin, I remember waking up to a news story about him when I was younger and thinking the kid's work ethic seemed crazy. How old would he be now? Eighth grade or going into HS freshman year?
It appears that Cordell has not taken the position with DePaul and is remaining where he is. According to him, "the timing was wrong".

Glad Cordell is further pursuing his education, but DPU is a better place to do that than CCC.

Going into HS freshman year, I can't find out what HS.
He's made the jump to being featured on Bleacher Report.

Cordell was an assistant at Division III North Park in Chicago last year. I chatted him up after they played a game against Carthage in Kenosha.

I saw the article too, but I actually "spoke" with Cordell on FB the other day and when I congratulated him on his new gig his exact words were "Thanks bro, but I decided to stay where I am. Timing was wrong so I went back."

Timing in this case being that the DePaul staff faces almost certain dismissal at season's end.

Unless Young an Melvin really get their game together
So, I guess according to NCAA rules, Henry taking a grad asst spot does not qualify him to adhere to the 2 year separation from possible recruits from his former school. And, as long as DePaul is still recruiting Paul White from WY, the timing is not right.
