Bon Voyage, Bro.
Here we go again--cannot compete with the big boys--so we move on and go after "the best available"

Two Sweet 16's, an Elite 8 and a Big East title the last 3 years aren't competing with the big boys?
Who says we're not in it still?
Yes, I realize it's North Carolina.

Blue bloods have these runs regularly. We're on our way, but not there yet.
And how is it going for JP Tokoto so far?
Not sure why 'Ol Roy even bothered.
If he'd have just called Diamond's English teacher, he'd have known that the kid's going to Wisconsin.

That's for Tokoto to answer. He's still there.
I'd say Tokoto has a great shot at bein' drafted in the first round whenever his UNC career ends. If you have talent, you have talent.

I must have missed something last year, he looked lost out there with no offensive game. He and Vander might have the same game. Europe anyone?

I agree, but that is the excuse offered for not landing somebody like Stone.
This isn't really worth worrying about, unless you were hoping the likes of UNC, Duke, Kentucky, Kansas, Louisville were just going to somehow overlook Stone. There's a long way to go in his recruitment and the best of the best will be putting a lot of attention on Stone for the next couple of years.
Stone would really enjoy one of those 2012 SS Camaro's the UNC players are driving around in Chapel Hill.

Right...because Vander didn't improve while at MU.

He improved enough to go to Europe if that is what he wanted to do, Tokoto will follow the same path, he might get better once he transfers next year out of NC, and shows
up at Wisky or MU, to get a good year of coaching and improvement, Roy just rolls the ball out with all that talent.

This is a silly statement. You negatively compare his offensive game to Vander's, but then say that he would get better coaching at MU...which is where Vander actually went.
And I will point out that Blue (48) was ranked higher on the final RSCI than Tokoto (57) was.

Just saying he will get better coaching from Bo or Buzz, Vander really improved last year, for Tokoto, I hope he improves as much.
I'd love to see Tokoto transfer to MU today. Then, read all the manure comin' from y'all's keyboards.

Agree 100 percent with this. Marquette is super-excited about Stone, a top-10 recruit. It was ridiculous to think others wouldn't be offering. Much will go into Stone's decision, perhaps including that Duane Wilson will be having an incredible experience at MU and will be in his buddy's ear constantly.
To get worked up about what a teenager might or might not decide a year or more from now is wasted energy.

And Stone will enjoy every bit of the attention. He must spend hours a day retweeting every time he is mentioned as a target by some fan from Arizona, Michigan, Kentucky, Duke, UNC, etc. It's going to get intense. Hoping Duane Wilson can help sway him but I won't hold my breath.

I think both players have limited offensive talent. Tokoto really is a small forward with no range, and Vander is a 2 guard that improved dramatically last year to give MU a great year,
and fun NCAA tournament, love the Davidson, St. Johns victory but still not good enough yet to make the NBA, time will tell. I do not see it today, but watching the improvement of
Dwight Buycks yesterday, I believe he will get a shot in the league, Vander after some more seasoning overseas might learn how to play the point. He will definitely make some money,
not sure about Tokoto yet.

Love between Wilson and Stone? Can you explain what makes you say that? Not that I think Stone feels compelled to follow Wilson to MU any more than Jabari Parker was interested in following Steve Taylor.

I agree with this, too. I'm glad we landed some top players other programs coveted, but I'm a big "we'll see" guy. Thousands of top-100 recruits have flamed out over the years, and thousands of outliers who weren't ranked high have succeeded. I'm excited to see what we got but not counting on anything.

In the quest to land Stone, let's just say that having Duane on our squad just might be a con rather than a pro as many might think.

OK, then never mind. I didn't know they were mortal enemies who don't want to be seen in the same zip code together ever again.
Fully expected Stone to be getting these type of offers. Think too early to say one way or another. Two years is a long, long time to a 16y kid. Keeping my fingers crossed that we stay in the mix.
Hey JPT Come on down.
I think we should all be happy that Stone will get these kinds of offers. Frankly, if NC, KU, Duke, and KY aren't interested in him, people would cry that he is over-rated.

As much as I like to have Stone, hopefully Buzz recruits a center next year that is pretty good.

They're not mortal enemies. But they're also not the blood brothers that some here may think they are. They had a good working relationship and say all the right things, but even without the blue bloods Stone was not going to follow Wilson.
NC has made over 40 offers out, so the offer to Stone means nothing.

No, it means quite a bit.
Stone is a top 10 recruit....some have him as top 5. TO think that he wouldn't get offers from all the blue bloods is absurd. Just need to keep calm and keep recruiting him. I think we have a bigger dog in this fight than people realize. Stone has consistently spoken on how proud he is of being from Milwaukee and has expressed a desire to stay close to home. I've only heard great things about his relationship with Duane (but maybe they are mortal enemies after all). He has been consistently seen at Marquette games and with the players. And Davante's development has gotten Buzz the label of coach who can work with big men. Think, if Buzz can take an out of shape low three star like Davante and turn him into the machine we know and love, imagine what he can do for Stone. He could turn him into the number one pick.
That being said, I have no inside information (I don't think any of us really do). The blue bloods have their obvious perks. And Stone will make the best decision for himself, as he should.
Quote from: Freeport Warrior on July 08, 2013, 05:10:39 PM

So based on your statement MU should move past Stone now since he's already decided to go elsewhere.
I could understand not being BFFs but I don't see how DW would be a con for Stone. Numerous times they are seen going to games together at the BC. If Stone didn't like Wilson, I don't he would be spending that much time with him.
This was always coming. That said, I still feel better about Stone than I did about JPT or Looney.

And if you have first round NBA talent you start in college, even at North Carolina (or Kentucky or Duke).
/And if you're ever going to start at North Carolina you're almost always a top rotation guy your first or second year.
