Don't even mention Juan...and I think he is a very probably starter.
Elsewhere in that article, it discusses the flaws of the top 20 coaches. IMO, buzz should be on that list. He isn't.

Perhaps it is simply a catalog of the Top 20 Coaches with flaws???
You serious with this belcher report stuff?
QuoteWhile in all likelihood freshmen Duane Wilson or JaJuan Johnson ill wsnag a starting guard spot, or junior college star Jameel McKay starts over Gardner at power forward (as Gardner has always been used as a reserve), it was easier to find highlights for the five players that I have used here as opposed to prep videos.
Wow. Beyond brutal.

Everybody's a journalist now because of the access to the internets.
Besides Mayo's dunk, none of these really had the pizzaz of a "signature highlight." Definitely could have done more digging.
Also, IMHO the starters will be
De Wilson
Anderson
J Wilson
McKay
Otule
but the 5 who get the most minutes will be
Du Wilson
JJJ
J Wilson
McKay
Gardner

The author has to weigh how stupid it looks to omit Buzz from the Top 20 Coaches' Flaws list than how stupid it looks to include him and say "no flaws." That's what journalizing is @ the BR... being less stupid.

Doubt it. Who is he going start over? If we are to believe the program, he's moving to the 2/3 position. So he wont be starting at the front court (like he was) and Jamil is taking the #3. Would be very disappointed in Mayo, Burton and Johnson if none are playing the primary minutes at the 2 (unless Juan improves dramatically of course).
And I'm a fan of Juan and would love nothing more than to see him explode. But I see him as Jamil's main backup.

He will be starting in the position that Lockett did last year.
De Wilson, Mayo, Anderson, Jamil and Otule.

I will be even more disappointed if Duane isn't starting by Christmas.
But I thought we were likely moving Jamil to the #3 with our added size so we could play a more true PF at the 4 in Steve/Jameel. Jamil is more comfortable on the outside anyways and doesn't compliment our size advantage as much. Plus that'll make it easier to distribute minutes to your best players.

Just in case the other comments did not make it clear, the reference to "CNNSI" in the title of the thread is out-dated -- CNN ended its relationship with SI earlier this year in order to push the vastly inferior (in my opinion) Bleacher Report (in which Turner happens to be heavily invested). If you believe that Bleacher Report is a decent site/source, that's fine (but will cause some to question your sanity), but you should not confuse Bleacher Report with SI.

That may be how the minutes play out, but I think Juan is going to get the nod at the start of the season. He may be that next player to take a leap.

I hope. Always had high hopes for him. Still would like to get that Otule-Garner/Steve-Jameel/Jamil front more often than not.

If Juan Anderson is a starter, it will be in the three minute per half mode as Erik Williams and Reggie Smith.
the reason I stated it was "cool" was that they thought enough of marquette bball to analyze starting line-up and not because of the analysis. big-time basketball programs get this kind of attention.
It is bleacher report. However, it pulls up on the cnn site.

It would be more accurate to say, "he" thought enough of Marquette bball to analyze the starting line-up. The vast majority of Bleacher Report "articles" (or maybe I should say slide shows) are written by unpaid fans who submit them. The same guy who wrote the article wrote the same article about Illinois. He pretty much just writes and submits articles about Illinois, the Big Ten and Marquette. He's a 2012 Illinois grad.
Don't get me wrong...sometimes there are actually decent things on Bleacher Report, but the fact that something appears on there doesn't mean anyone thought much of anything. Their standards are notoriously low and they'll publish pretty much anything that one of their unpaid contributors submits. So, rather than suggesting that "they" thought anything of Marquette, the publication of that article means only that some 22 year old Illinois grad thought he could get a few hits and he did -- almost 1,500. It's worth noting that this thread has received almost as many hits as the Bleacher Report slide-show -- without CNN's backing.

Or because he legitimately deserves it. Vander took a huge step up last year between his sophomore and junior years to become one of the best players in the league. I'm not saying Juan will do the same, but he certainly could.

That's true. Juan's lasted long enough where I don't see him getting Ewill minutes. He's gonna be comfortable enough where he has the potential to really improve, I hope.
If you look at Juan in high school, he had a lot of flash and flair in his game. The kind of stuff that won't translate quickly at this level. But he also demonstrated a very high basketball IQ, which has translated to a degree. He's shown himself to be a solid rebounder and clearly is gaining confidence. In some ways he reminds me of Dwight Buycks, not that they play the same, but that their games had to adapt to find success at higher levels. I'm very excited to see Juan returning and still think he could be much better than most MU fans give him credit for.
