Title: Draft Express on Vander
Post by: MU82 on June 27, 2013, 10:11:59 AM
Draft Express, usually a pretty reliable predictor, is not high on Vander.

http://www.draftexpress.com/article/Just-By-the-Numbers-the-2013-Shooting-Guard-Crop-4272

They don't have him being drafted at all. They have lots of stats, including some "new-fangled" ones, and Vander ranks either near the bottom or middle of the pack in pretty much all of them.

Talking about his next-to-last (among draftable 2-guards) A/TO ratio: Vander Blue – who was touted as a combo-guard out of high school, though failed to live up to these expectations in college – and Archie Goodwin round out the bottom of this list.

About his defense: More surprising, however, is the fact that players vaunted for their defense at the collegiate level such as Vander Blue and Michael Snaer rank so poorly, perhaps justifying their current standing in our top-100 and their tenuous overall draft prospects.

Take this for what it's worth. I mean, in the profiles section, they list Tim Hardaway Sr.'s stats and profile!

We'll know exactly where Vander stands with NBA scouts in a matter of hours.

Starting to think he heard he wouldn't even be drafted next year so he said it's time to start cashing overseas money now rather than playing for free another year.

Not hearing many people here predicting first round like we were last month.  I hope it works out, still think outside shot of round 2, but definitely outside shot.  Only takes one team, of course.

It would surprise me, however, that he would think he wouldn't be drafted next year when a lot of the "gurus" have him going next year in the draft.

Did he hire an agent?  Since he is participating in the draft, is there any way for him to come back to MU if not picked or has that door been shut on him?  Apologies - don't know the specifics of the rule.

C'mon, Chicos. You're giving credence to draft projection 1+ years from today? Preseason AP and coach's polls are waaay more reliable than 2014 draft guesses. That's just crazy.

Door was shut in April.

I agree. The sites need filler until all the unknowns pop in. Its safe to add highly recognized seniors to the lists before you get next years Giannis and Rice Jr's, both of which weren't recognized as draft picks until recently.

The rule changed a year or two ago.  There is a very small window to withdraw your name, and only declared for the draft a few days before that deadline back in April, IIRC.

Considering there are 60 draftees vs a top 25....their margin for error is much wider.   ;)

Even had they not changed the rule I don't think Vander would have been back. The more I hear about his decision to declare, the more I get the sense his mind was made up to go early entry before he even arrived at Marquette as a freshman.
