Whitefish Bay Dominican sophomore Diamond Stone has been selected for USA Basketball U16 national team that will play in the FIBA Americas U16 Championship June 11-15 in Maldonado, Uruguay.
Stone, a 6-foot-10 forward/center, was the only player from the state selected. Rice Lake sophomore center Henry Ellenson made the first cut at the trials, which went from 30 to 16 but wasn't selected for the 12-man final roster.
The team trials were held this past weekend in Colorado Springs, Colo. Stone and the rest of the team will remain in Colorado Springs to train twice a day through Friday morning and then begin traveling to Uruguay.
I apologize if this has been posted previously.
Guess we're not gonna be able to stash Stone away in Whitefolks Bay much longer, huh?
I still feel decent about the chances of landing stone. Given that he seems like a humble kid and his friendship with Duane. Why not spend a year in your hometown with your best friend and be a part of a possibly historic season at Marquette. I obviously know this is wishful thinking
I'm kind of disappointed. This keeps Stone on the one and done fast track, and its hard to compete against Kentucky whose program is geared toward getting guys prepared for the NBA in one year for guys like that. Making the cut to 16 will only push Ellenson's stock even higher.
We still have two years to woo him here. Buzz may have the "gift of gab".?
Stone goes 9 for 11, 20 points, 8 rebounds in 17 minutes in the opener. A 130-31 win over Mexico.

8-65 shooting!
That's almost as bad as women's basketball.

Our women's basketball team could have easily outshot our men last year

It was a joke. Please don't turn this thread into that, especially since you're so incredibly wrong.
FYI their next game is tonight at 5 pm central against Argentina. It looks like you can stream it at fibaamericas.com

3-9 for 11 points, 6 boards. Argentina played them a little tougher but it was still a 22 point route at halftime
Do any of the recruiting gurus on this board know how hard we are recruiting Henry Ellenson? It mentions in the OP that he made the first cut for the USA U16 team. He must be pretty good.
Looks like Stone starting out real nice. USA blowout!!!

He is a very good prospect but I wouldn't get your hopes up, I think he's a Wisconsin lean. In fact:

A big in-state white kid? Where else would he want to go?

MU is in the mix and those that have him ranked in the upper 20's have him underrated.

Either Buzz knows something about Diamond that we don't or he's dropping the ball on this one if that quote is correct.

That quote was regarding Ellenson, not Diamond.

Ahh, I misunderstood your post. I thought you meant that Buzz was dropping the ball on recruiting Stone, not that what "Buzz knows" about Stone was that he's a strong Marquette lean.
In regards to Ellenson, he's from a small town in NW Wisconsin. I have a suspicion that Marquette is not very well-liked around those parts. Buzz probably decided not to waste his time.
I hope that's not the case. Can't afford to pass on top 20 prospects in state just because they have friends and family who are badger fans

Ha... Buzz has spent time in Rice Lake and seems to be well liked most places he goes (Morgantown, WVa might be an exception). Rice Lake isn't all that far from the Twin Cities (100 miles) and the Ellenson boys all have played summer ball with a Minnesota program.
Plenty of Marquette fans (and grads) in western and northwestern Wisconsin.
I wouldn't put too much stock in that quote. Buzz has been up to Rice Lake a couple of times. I would be surprised if MU wasn't still looking at him unless he has said "no thanks."

I have a friend from MU who grew up near Rice Lake and used to joke that she was all but shunned for choosing MU over Madison. Maybe things have changed over the past 15 years.

Or maybe there's some truth to the fact that a lot of Wisconsinites, especially those who don't live in the SE portion of the state, have a very strong dislike for the prissy private school in the big city.

There absolutely are a lot of Wisconsinites who dislike (jealousy) Marquette. However, that wasn't what the conversation was about.

Buzz didn't pass. As Terror said, Buzz has met with Ellenson plenty of times. It might just be that he prefers Wisconsin thus far so Buzz is starting to focus on other recruits.
