Apparently close to signing with MU. Committed to Baylor out of high school, but took the prep school route and ended up with Duquane. Is this the kid that punched the ref in high school when he was at Milwaukee Washington? Either way good fit or no?

All I see on twitter is that he recently took a visit to UWM. What is your source?
Don't know if they would like me to name their names but some alumni and people who work for Marquette
Kid will be a stud.

I have never seen him play, so can somebody advise us what he brings to the table as a player? Is he a shooter, slasher, is he a 3 or a 2?
If he comes to MU, fine. But we need some bigs. We will be running out of scholarships for any bigs in next two years. Does all of this mean that we do not believe that we can get either Looney or Stone? If Looney is going elsewhere, there need to be a full court press to secure Stone.

Intersting....this guy also alleges that MU is backing off on Looney cause the other schools involved are offering stuff under the table. That's a pretty bold statement to make without supporting proof. Not saying this guy is right, or wrong. Just a big statement to throw out there without anything to support it.

A couple of things from this week.....
· MU has finalized agreement to play New Mexico next December at the MGM Grand Hotel...more details to follow. It also appears that home game with UCLA next year is close to happening as well. As previously noted, Ohio State is already on next year's home schedule.
· It appears MU may be close to landing transfer Quevyn Winters – Winters is from Milwaukee and had originally committed to Baylor coming out of high school two years ago. He eventually backed out of his commitment and went to prep school for a year before signing on with Duquesne where he played last year – averaged 10 points and 4 rebounds/game and was one of the top freshman in the Atlantic 10 conference. Winters is a 6'5" swing man with great athleticism – assumption is that he would sit out next year but he may try to get special consideration because of illness in his family – unlikely to occur. Not positive this will happen but insides believe it may be close.
· MU offered scholarships over the past week to two new players from the 2014 class – 6'7" Riley Norris, a do everything player from Alabama who is ranked in the Top 50 in the country, and 6'4" combo guard Devin Mitchell from Georgia (with family in Milwaukee and Chicago area).
· MU is no longer in the running for Kevon Looney – he apparently has zeroed in on Duke, Michigan State, Tennessee, and Wisconsin with Duke the apparent leader – MU stopped actively recruiting him a couple of months back apparently – I think there were some concerns over some of the under the table stuff. MU is still very much in the running for Diamond Stone and Henry Ellenson – I personally think Stone will come to MU for his one year (like Looney, Stone is clearly a one and done) because of his friendship with Duane Wilson.
· Lots of love for Jimmy Butler around the country after his 21 pt, 14 reb, 48 minute performance against the Heat Monday – lots of MU and Coach Buzz references (Barkley gave a shout out to Buzz as a "hell of a coach" when talking about Butler).
yeah he uses "apparently" quite a bit

I don't think Kevon or his family are involved in any of that, but it wouldn't surprise me if there were some people pushing in trying to get a piece of the action.

Also, it could go the other way too. If Wilson blows up during his first two years here, he might be more likely to stay for his junior year if Stone is coming in.
MU is no longer recruiting Looney
The reason is a concern about some under the table stuff
Wisconsin is a finalist for Looney
So....

If you ever meet "some dude" have him tell you the story of dancing at mid court on Notre Dame 's Joyce Center floor (or whatever they called it before it was branded the Joyce Center) during half time sometime in the 70's. Sid is legendary.

I would like to know who he's talking about ranking Riley Norris in their top fifty. All rankings that I've seen have Norris out of the top
150. I'm not knocking Riley as a player. We all know that the rankings can be flawed. If Buzz wants him, I hope MU gets him. I'm just knocking the credibility of someone who says that Norris is ranked in the top fifty players in the country when he's not ranked in the top three (or five) in Alabama.

QW is a POS
I remember QW as a terrific rebounder at Milw. Wash. Was a very good athlete.
Probably had to learn the guard and point forward positions. Would be a good
ad to the team and also another player from Milwaukee. If the Looney rumor is
true, lost my respect for him. Who cares about UW with that planet of the apes
coach? And he is a one-and-done. Give me Paul White. Bleed MU.

Some interesting news, if true. Getting Stone for a year would be huge. How highly regarded was Winters coming out of HS? Must be pretty high since he chose Baylor initially.
He may not have the reason correct, but Looney himself said somewhere recently that he doesn't hear from Marquette much. I think Buzz realizes its not a possibility and moving on.

A little harsh towards Looney, no? The kid can go anywhere he wants. I assume he'll end up at Duke. Not a bad choice. Anyway, no loss...doubt he ever considered MU seriously. I would love to see Paul White at MU...but not because Looney isn't coming. White is a stud.
Feels like MU has a good chance to grab Stone. I'm liking their odds.
Not sure why anyone would consider playing at UW-Madison. But hey, to each his own.

I think he would "lose his respect" for Looney because Looney effectively eliminated Marquette while other schools were supplying under-the-table stuff.

"Allegedly" from some anonymous emailer. I have some doubts that's true.
I don't really think that Looney is taking cash under the table, but either way I'm glad Buzz is no longer wasting time on a kid who never really expressed any interest in staying in his hometown.

That was the same with Tokato, but many on this board were still recruiting him after we had no chance to get him.
Everything points to Looney leaving the state. Let UW waste their time and resources recruiting him and let their fanbase kid themselves that they were the runner-up when in fact they had no chance at all.

The same folks who were the only ones to have Dawson in the top 100. Hopefully, they are correct on both.
These guys also have Looney ranked number 2. They obviously don't follow the crowd which is good to see. On the other hand, they don't even list Duke as involved with Looney. And they list L.J. Peak from Whitney Young HS in Chicago as being from Gaffney, SC.

I remember an early quote from Kevin O'Neill about recruiting the guys that everyone was after. It went something like; "So and so will brag about getting in the door on this or that recruit. Big deal, unless you land them you didn't accomplish anything."

Agreed, the notion implies Coach K, Izzo, and Ryan are putting their careers and reputations on the line for Looney.
Sir Lawrence
+1 on Sid!! Not saying this specific to Looney case, but Buzz knows when the game is being played at different level. He knows when piranha's are in the water and moves to next guy.

Yeah. Regarding Looney being ranked #2, I think they recently updated that. He was towards the bottom of the top 10 last time I checked. Regardless, I've always thought they do a good job - I hope they're right about Dawson and Norris (if we get him).
Winters was rated 2 Stars by ESPN when he signed with Duquesne last year.

On a side note, how do we pronounce some of these names. Quevyn Winters and Kevon Looney. Are they both Kevin? Is Kevon actually Keh-vonn? Spelling these days...
