What a game. I rarely watch the NBA but man is Butler tough. Guarding the best player in the world, playing 48 minutes, putting up 21 and 14.
Holy crap.
Butler has been amazing this year for the Bulls. He has played all 48 minutes in the last 3 games. Side note: the Heat bitch and moan a lot.
He is a Warrior and on his way to becoming an NBA All- Star

Jimmy Butler has now played 148:28 consecutive minutes in the playoffs stretching back to Game 5 vs the Nets. #realironman
After Kenny Smith (I think--it was a very quick and shallow game recap) made a "Marquette on Marquette comment (for JFB and DWade), and some JFB love, Sir Charles weighed in with "that Buzz Williams can COACH."

On sports center in Chicago they said DWade was the second best Marquette player on the court tonight!

JFB is a freakin machine, but still not an all-star. I'll take Wade over Jimmy any day. That was layoff rust last night for Heat. Different team come Wednesday.

The Heat complain more than any team in the NBA and Wade is one of the worst. He complains on all calls.

The difference is that the Bulls argue a call but don't argue to the ref from the moment the foul was called until the second free throw shot.
Jimmy's development as a player has been great to watch this year. He's going to make a lot of money for a long time. Until Deng comes back, he won't leave the floor.

Did it occur to you that maybe he has a point? He is a guy that has averaged about 8 FT's per game throughout his career, and last night, he never went to the line. I am sure he did not go to the line because of good hard clean d by the Bulls, right?
It is amazing how some dis Wade and the career he has had. Look at the Superstars--they almost universally complain about calls. Not saying that is right--that is how it is in the NBA. I guess Wade should pack it in and retire.

That wasn't just lay off rust. The Bulls do that to a lot of teams. The Heat will eventually win this, but it will not be pretty.

Which is why we need to get a guy on Golden State.
Jimmy was getting a lot of love on WLS radio this morning, which is normally a politically-themed talk show.
The hosts were saying that in a league full of primadonnas and trash talkers, Jimmy was someone that a parent could point to as a good example for their kids.
While they mentioned he was from Marquette, they incorrectly identified Jimmy as a 2nd-round draft pick.
Thibs can coach. I think for JFB, it was really ideal for his development as a player to go from Buzz to Thibs.

I know what you guys are saying about Wade are true, but unless he does something truly terrible, I'm always going to be a fan of his. Kevin Youkilis never thought a pitch he took was a strike, and that was annoying, but I still loved the guy when he was on the Red Sox (of course now that he wears pinstripes he is an insufferable jerk).
I'm rooting for the Bulls because, for reasons I don't understand, I root for the more recent graduates of Marquette over the ones that have been in the NBA longer, like somehow they belong to Marquette more. I know it doesn't make sense, but there it is.

How do you arrive at your conclusion from this post. I didn't, nor did anyone else, "dis" Wade's entire career or body of work. No one suggested he "pack it in and retire". Observations were made, which are, quite frankly, accurate. I just wish he'd act a little more "warrior" like and not complain so much.

Quit sipping the kool aid. I'll always love D Wade, but he b*tches and moans more than anyone in the league, w/ the possible exception of Carlos Boozer.
The Bulls have their fair share of whiners, but you won't see any of them taking plays off b/c of it; Thibs wouldn't tolerate it. On a regular basis, including last night, Wade will chirp away in the backcourt just long enough for the Heat force a turnover and throw him a 3/4 court baseball pass for an easy transition bucket.
Do you people watch the NBA at all? Everyone bitches about calls. Honestly, I don't know I could say Wade is the worst, because I have become immune to it.
And do you know how many great NBA players have bitched about calls? Pretty much every single one of them.

I think people are upset (me included) that Wade gets away with this from the refs and takes advantage of it. I guess he is smart to take advantage of it, but as a fan it is annoying watching a guy do something all the time yet Larry Sanders would get T'ed up in a second for the same thing. Still can't believe James got a technical taken back.

I wish the same thing about a lot of people on this board.
From the Chicago Trib article:
Butler earned notoriety during the regular season for helping hold Kobe Bryant to 16 points on 7-of-22 shooting. Nate Robinson noted how Monday night, Butler told him how to switch and go under the screen.
"And that's somebody younger than me telling me that,'' Robinson said. "He's helping me out.''
Still more good pub for Buzz's development abilities.
Either that, or maybe Nate should have listened a little closer to Lorenzo Romar.

Iron man Butler never leaves court
By Mike McGraw
MIAMI — Playing all 48 minutes is getting to be standard procedure for Jimmy Butler. The third-year forward has done that three games in a row now, something unheard of in modern-day NBA basketball.
But guarding LeBron James is a new experience. Luol Deng has handled those duties pretty much full-time over the years. With Deng back in Chicago trying to shake an illness and bad reaction to a spinal tap, James belonged to Butler during the Bulls' Game 1 victory.
"I talked to Lu before the game," Butler said. "He's just like, 'Take up his space, make everything tough for him, challenge every shot and of course no layups.' I feel like if I'm going give layups, make him earn it from the stripe.
"Lu's going to rest up and we want him back. For now, I guess I'll be stuck guarding him."
During the four minute or so James spent on the bench, Butler slid over to guard fellow Marquette product Dwyane Wade. By the way, Butler scored 21 points and collected a game-high 14 rebounds. He wasn't all about defense this night.
"I'm really proud of him," teammate Joakim Noah said. "He's a young player, but he played huge against the best. He's like a brother and to see him shine the way he's been shining in these playoffs...I knew he was ready, but the sky's the limit for that kid."
Butler was asked after the game how he manages to play all 48 minutes again and again.
"It's all about the rest that you get in between," he answered. "I feel like I'll do whatever it takes for this team to win, if that's 48 or it's 20."
At this rate, Butler should probably sleep until the bus leaves for Game 2 on Wednesday.
James finished with 24 points and made a strong fourth quarter push. But the Bulls finished the game on a 24-10 run after James produced back-to-back 3-point plays to put the Heat ahead 76-69 with 6:34 remaining.
"I think we gave ourselves a chance to win," James said. "We played some really good basketball, but they made a couple more shots and grabbed a couple more offensive rebounds.
"This is what the playoffs are all about. We're going against a really good team and we know that, so we'll prepare tomorrow and be ready for Game 2."

I always wonder how fans of basketball don't watch the NBA playoffs. I know it's hip to bang on the NBA, but the playoffs are unbelievable. The level of basketball is so far above college basketball. Regular season is brutal at times but you need to start tuning in. Stephen Curry in the third quarter last night was amazing.

I agree 110%. Playoff basketball has been (and will continue) to be high intensity drama on the biggest stage. There are countless story lines out there and great basketball being played. The physical defense that the Bulls are playing with, and that the Pacers have always played with, are so refreshing to watch.
Scott Van Pelt, on ESPN radio, just talked about how Butler reflects the toughness that is Marquette. Commented about the amazing back-story, and said that Chicago is just a tough team. But SVP did specifically mention how tough Marquette is.

+1000. Taking the extraneous (rooting for the alma mater, watching your kid, eg.) out of it, NBA playoff basketball is the nuts. If you understand and appreciate the game it's no contest. Saying you love basketball but find it more aesthetically pleasing when played by lesser athletes (college, high schoolers or 5th grade girls) is like a wine lover who favors "two buck Chuck" over all others or a carnivore who prefers Arbys to The Chop House.

Yeah, but hardly anybody on this board makes questionable decisions about their life judging from the criticisms of Wade on this board. Wade complains about calls, so do many other NBA players. Nobody says a word about Wade's charitable contributions, or that it is exemplary what he is doing for his kids, or that he took about 250 to 500k less per year than James and Bosh, and he did not seek a max deal. Let's all jump on him for some occasional whining when he gets mugged on the way to the rim. There are many whiners in the NBA--it is part of the game. It may not be right, but then the league needs to clean it up if it is a problem. Why not petition the league for that instead of bitching about Wade?
