Title: Grantland Article: The new NBA role player
Post by: WarriorInNYC on April 30, 2013, 12:22:11 PM
Article on players that are "Battier-like", doesn't specifically mention Marquette, but Jimmy and Wes made the list and Jae made the "More Intriguing But Unknown Young Guys" list.

Was just about to post this, so basically they are talking about defensive switchables who can shoot.  Makes since that some MU players would be on the list.  I think J Wilson could fit into this category in the future as well if he pans out nicely.

If you are above 6'6", you can defend, and you can shoot the corner 3, there is a spot for you in the league.

How about if you are 5'9", a la Nate Robinson?

Jimmy was a great defender who turned himself into a better shooter. Wes was a good defender who showed he could shoot when given more of an opportunity. Jamil is a skilled but inconsistent offensive player who is a mediocre (at best) on-ball defender. It will be interesting to see if he can improve enough to deserve to be mentioned with Jimmy and Wes.

yes that is what I was trying to say without quite the emphasis.  IF he pans out, he has some potential as this type of player in the league.

Edit--

I didn't notice that this was already a topic. Mods feel free to delete.

Reading Grantland today, I came across an article about the new desired NBA role player. The article shows love to Jimmy Buckets, Wes Matthews and Jae Crowder as the future.

Looks like Buzz's preferred style of player has a pretty big future.

Nice article.  Every day, Zach Lowe is revolutionizing writing about basketball on the national level.  He is outstanding.

Jamil could fit into the same slot.

Well, Vander won't fit into this club at this point due to his outside shooting deficiencies, and maybe he never will due to his (lack of) height.  Not being projected for that kind of role makes it tougher for Vander to get drafted.
