in the second round.

First credible mock with Blue in it.

Mock does not include GR3 or McGary, who would be first rounders if they declare.

2nd round can be a big crapshoot because so many teams end up taking internationals that they just store in Europe for 3+ years.

How do we know Vander doesn't have a promise from a team he will be picked?

Seriously doubt any NBA team would promise to take VB.

Not only that but I know of a few players 'promised' they would be picked by a team and end up falling past them. Guarantees aren't allowed, so a NBA won't ever admit to it or get in trouble. It happens where a team is confident they will draft a player but then a better player falls unexpected they are going to pick the guy they view to be a better player,

Seriously doubt any NBA team would promise to take any particular player, save maybe the first 7 or 8 picks...

The problem for Vander is that's only half the battle.  And that's assuming he gets picked at all.

I was thinking that might be the case.  When people started bringing up the possibility of him going pro a couple months ago, all I kept thinking about was Daniel Gibson.  He pretty much got a guarantee from the Cavs that they'd pick him, and he went mid 2nd round.  He made the league minimum his 1st 2 years and has grossed $17m total to date.  I'd take it.  Perhaps Blue got the same assurances.  Or maybe he didn't.  Who knows at this point, but all it takes is one team, even if the rest think it's a joke you left early.

I guess I could look this up but am too lazy.

I saw Marcus Smart withdrew from the draft today...what if Vander doesn't sign with an agent...doesn't get drafted?  What's next?

Didn't that happen a few years back?  What are his options at that point?

Who?

No one specific off the top of my head but I have been fortunate enough to attend some pre-draft workouts in the past and talk to players. They would say so-so said they are drafting me in the second if I'm still there. A few weeks later they got passed up by said team.

It may not be a straight lie from the team, but it could be a misinterpretation by the agent or the player. I'm sure the team put that as a qualified guarantee (Aka unless so and so is available) but the player only heard they wanted him at that pick if he was available.

Interesting that only three of the projected first-round picks -- and none of the top 11 -- are seniors.

Also interesting: 9 of those predicted to go ahead of Blue are international. Which is even a bigger guess than the rest of the projections.

Mock drafts are silly, but they're always fun conversation starters.

And no one over the age of 22.

Does that mean Todd has 1 year left to change minds?

Second round is what I thought. Draftexpress is one of the best around.  Going to be a tough sell for Vander, but lets see what happens at the predraft combines.

If he doesn't sign an agent (though I heard he is) and doesn't submit the paperwork (I believe he did) he could pull his name out until April 28. In fact, if he didn't submit the paperwork, his name simply wouldn't be on the official draft list that the NBA generates.

If he's undrafted he can try to latch on with a team as a free agent or can pursue pro options in another league, either the NBDL or Europe being the most likely options.

He more than likely got the guarantee or promise from an agent than a NBA team. When someone promise you $1 million a year, it's hard to ignore.

My understanding was that April 28th is only the NBA deadline... if a player declares for the draft and does not withdraw by April 16, he loses NCAA eligibility.

So Vander will not be playing at MU next year, even if he doesn't hire an agent and withdraws at this point.

That's what I thought also. Players have until 4/28 to put their name in but the NCAA has the deadline of 4/16 to withdraw your name and remain eligible.

You can declare for the draft publicly (reminiscent of Michael Scott "declaring" bankruptcy), but like Brew said if you haven't submitted the paperwork, you haven't officially declared per the NCAA.  I believe Van submitted the paperwork though.  If so, he can no longer withdraw.  If not, he has until the 28th to do so, provided he doesn't hire an agent.

Bernard James of Florida State was drafted in the early second round last year as a 27 year old..

1 pick ahead of Crowder in fact.  The Mavs said it was pretty much a toss up between the 2 players as they drafted both of them and chose to go with James first because he served in the Air Force.

Why does the NCAA not just use the NBA deadline or vice versa?

Why does the NCAA not just use the NBA deadline or vice versa?

The reason is today is the first day you can sign a National Letter of Intent and the NCAA wanted to give the coaches more time during the recruitment period to fill needs.

Say what you want about Hammond but he is actually an awesome drafter. Sanders and Jennings were Great picks for their slots. Henson and Tobes were pretty damn good picks too.

Signing drew gooden and recycling warn out SFs is another story.

Bucks needed Przybilla like they needed anal warts. We'll see how sharp Hammond is when Ellis opts out and Jennings bolts, and he resigns Redick for Clay Mathews bread. Maybe Joe Alexander can play guard.
