I'm curious what the latest is for our assistants. I had a meeting this morning with one of the two Pac 12 schools locally....won't say which one but one of their assistants is pulling in $350K.
At KU they were making about $240K. At Michigan, making about $160K.
I was surprised to hear the $$ that this Pac 12 school was throwing down for an assistant.

A Sun-Times story about Chew when he left Illinois for Marquette intimated that his salary at MU would be $250k+, but I've heard even larger numbers floated.

I don't remember where I read it, but someone described Chew's raise from Illinois to MU as something like "life changing/can't pass if you can get it."
I have no sources but thought the general consensus for Chew was something like $750k.... if 250k is considered pretty high for the industry, it's probably unlikely MU was paying 3x that figure.
Maybe someone else would be able to locate the story... something like we doubled what he'd have been making at IU?

I didn't name drop at all here, I gave context to the meeting (please indicate the name of the person dropped). Considering the schools involved and the comments here that these schools don't pay well, it was rather startling the amount they are paying for just one assistant.

Zero chance. I'd be surprised with more than high-$200's.
In the Big Ten I see a lot in the $150k-$200k range for top two assistants.
I know they do most of the recruiting and scouting but damn, talk about a nice salary for a job that's way less pressure than a head coaching position.

I'm pretty sure Benford took a significant pay cut to go be a head coach at North Texas too. Marquette pays their assistants well.
