Big Ten proved to be the best.  Big East second.

MVC and Atlantic Sun had better percentages but one trick ponies.  Big East with three Elite Eight and two Final Four teams.

Only too apporpriate that a Big East team and a Big Ten team square off in the final.

Wouldn't a more meaningful stat be total games one in the tournament?

Using winning percentage, The Horizon League would have been at or near the top in 2010 and 2011 solely due to Butler.

I included both for that reason.  Games won and percentage.  Some conferences, had a few teams carry the flag for the conference in this tournament.  End of the day, crapshoot.  Best team doesn't always win, often doesn't.  If Louisville wins, that will be an exception.  If Michigan wins, they got hot at the right time, Kansas gifted them a win, but that is often the case for tournament champions, they get some luck along the way. You take it, give a wink upstairs, and enjoy the ride.

Lots of wins at the start for Big Ten give them the edge, but look at the number of BE teams moving on.

Fitting that the top two conferences - MVC's Wichita State aside - are in the title game.

May the BEst team win. ;)

ND, Pitt and Georgetown as a group have underperformed terribly for the Big East the last 6 NCAA tournaments, and are the primary reason many have considered the Big East over-rated the past few years

Notre Dame
2008 - 5 seed, beat 12 George Mason, lost by 61-41 to 4 seed Wahsington State
2009 - Did not participate
2010 - 6 Seed, lost to 11 Old Dominion
2011 - 2 seed, beat 15 Akron, lost to 10 Florida State
2012 - 7 seed, lost to 10 Xavier
2013 - 7 seed, lost to 10 Iowa State

Pittsburgh
2008 - 4 seed, beat 13 Oral Roberts, lost to 5 seed Michigan State
2009 - 1 seed, beat 16 East TN State, beat 8 Oklahoma State, beat 4 Xavier, lost to 3 Villanova
2010 - 3 seed, beat 14 Oakland, lost to 6 Xavier
2011 - 1 seed, beat 16 UNC-Asheville, lost to 8 Butler
2012 - Did not participate
2013 - 8 seed - lost to 9 Wichita State

Georgetown
2008 - 2 seed, beat 15 UMBC, lost to 10 Davidson
2009 - Did not participate
2010 - 3 seed, lost to 14 Ohio
2011 - 6 seed, lost to 11 VCU
2012 - 3 seed, beat 14 Belmont, lost to 11 NC State
2013 - 2 seed, lost to 15 Florida Gulf Coast

In the past 6 years, they have 15 appearances between them, and played to seed only once (ND 2008) , and in that one time ND was spanked by 20 as a 5 seed against a 4 seed that lost itself by 21 in its next game.  Pitt did make an Elite 8 as a 1 seed.

I've always believed you judge a conference top to bottom, not just the 2 or 3 elite teams.  This is why when people say whomever is in the championship that conference is best.... :o.  By that logic, the Horizon League was the 2nd best conference both 2 and 3 years ago because of the success of one team...Butler.

Wow this just makes you appreciate our recent tournament success even more.  MU alone has 9 wins since 2008 and those 3 schools have a combined 10 during the same period.

"Big Ten proved to be the best.  Big East second."

"Big East with three Elite Eight and two Final Four teams."

Is it just me, or do these statements not jive?

That is kind of amazing with Pitt, ND and Georgetown.  I knew those teams hadn't done much, but wow, they haven't done anything.

Wow!  What a great basketball run for the end of The "old" Big East Conference.  The conference that is no more sent three teams in the Elite 8, two to the Final 4 and produced the National Champion.  The women's side sent three teams to the Final 4 and the Champion will definitely come from the conference.
Time to bring on the new Big East.

It's subjective, as you can measure in many different ways (total wins; winning percentage; weighted toward later round success, etc.).  My subjective view is that the BE edges the B1G by a bit due to 2 FF/3 EE teams, and a comparable overall record (4-6/12-7).

By seed, total expectation for Pitt, ND and Georgetown was 31-15 (assuming 4-1 for Pitt both years as a 1 seed), and they actually went 10-15.  Moreover, as single digit seeds against double digit seeds, they were 8-9.

Marquette over the same period

2008 - 6 seed, beat 11 Kentucky, lost in OT to 3 Stanford
2009 - 6 seed, beat 11 Utah State, lost to 3 Missouri
2010 - 6 seed, lost to 11 Washington
2011 - 11 seed, beat 6 Xavier, beat 3 Syracuse, lost to 2 North Carolina
2012 - 3 seed, beat 14 Brigham Young, beat 6 Murray State, lost to 7 Florida
2013 - 3 seed, beat 14 Davidson, beat 6 Butler, beat 2 Miami, lost to 4 Syracuse

By seed, we were expected to be 7-6, and we went 9-6, which is solid.  2 years better than seed expectation (2011, 2013), 1 year worse than seed expectation (2010), and 3 years at seed expectation (2008, 2009, 2012).  We lost to worse seeded teams 3 times (we were 6-3 against teams we were supposed to beat by seed), and beat higher seeded teams 3 times (we were 3-3 against teams we were supposed to lose to by seed)

The B1G has only one championship the last 24 years...yet overall, top to bottom, they are usually the most well-rounded. Odd, but Michigan's make-up was your anti-B1G prototype team (and to an extent so was IU), and signals the change of play evolving. New coaching blood has been good for the conference.
