Title: Syracuse v Michigan
Post by: Norm on April 06, 2013, 08:42:41 PM
Good game so far. I think UM just got a call against SU that went against MU in our game. Could have easily been a charge on UM there.

So far, this looks like the February Cuse team.  CJFair needs to make his shots.

Amazing how many guys 6'8" and taller both teams are able to throw out there.

McGary is the difference for UM right now, and some of those deep, deep 3's for UM are just ridiculous. Will be interesting to see if Boeheim changes anything up for the 2nd half, especially on offense.

so sick of listening to gotlieb at half...amazing how a guy can be wrong so often, yet still be so cocky, arrogant, and sure of himself.  what a tool.

This entire tourney, all I've been thinking is how different this past season may have been had McGary not blown up. We were among the leaders for him and Buzz was in very early, then he shot up to everyone's top-5 before settling back in the 20s. Still, such a dominant player down low. I think we'd still be playing right now had he come to Marquette, and might even be the favorite come Monday.

We were in on McGary? Geez, that would have been nice to have landed him.

I really like TJ Fair's game.  But he may be the 8th most skilled player on the floor.

I've seen Beilien at Mitchell International Airport twice in the past year - only two times I've flown in or out. Now I know why.

He caught a bad break on the charge.  Looked like Morgan was shufflin to the sided.

WTF was that last play.  But the dude from Michigan appeared to travel when he caught the rebound.

Other whistle (or lack thereof) to go against Cuse.

Every questionable call went Michigan's way in the last 5 minutes, two of which helped them immensely. I hope Louisville can beat them on Monday, but it wont be easy.

Horrible final play by Cuse. Inexcusably horrible. Either a horrible call by Boeheim or just horrible execution by the players. (Did I say "horrible" enough to sound like Bill Walton?) But seriously, awful.

On another note ... Michigan hit just enough 3-pointers to win the game. They did lots of other things right, including get some calls, but they did plenty wrong that could have cost them the game. In the end, they went 8-for-24 from 3 compared to our 3-for-24. That's 15 points. Michigan also outscored Syracuse by 15 points from behind the arc. Fifteen points! That's a lot of points, and it's what you must do to win a game between outstanding teams.

Towards the end of the first half, when Michigan had scored 33 points, one of the announcers remarked, "Michigan has already scored almost as many points against Syracuse as Marquette did the entire game!"

Ouch.

Absolutely.  IU beats Michigan twice, but can't handle Syracuse.  UM can't beat IU, but can beat Syracuse.  It's always about matchups, always has been and always will be.  Not rocket science.  Some teams are just horrible matchups for others and to act surprised or flippant about it doesn't serve you well in the basketball IQ department.

The entire tournament is a ruse to entertain and distract the troglodyte masses from the pure and true champion: the winner of the Big Tween regular season
