6'9" athlete who is eligible to play immediately. He chose Memphis over MU. Could be an interesting one year transfer ala Lockett but he does have some baggage.

Didn't recall this but someone ::) wanted him pretty bad. ::)
Leaving after 3 years... Mom wants a new car already?
I'll pass.
I remember many "Black and Blue" references during his recruitment.
If Otule doesn't return, that would be an interesting option. But if Otule is back, I am not sure there is a place for him in the rotation with Gardner, Jamil, Taylor and McKay.

Good point... I forgot about McKay coming in next year.
Intriguing, though it looks like the baggage added up in the past year. A one year player has to really fit in well to make it worth bringing him in - just don't see anything to make me believe he's got Lockett's maturity.

I prefer "being put out to Pastner."
Seems like a perfect fit for Mizzou.
Pass. That ship has sailed.
Missed badly on Deshonte Riley too.
So what happened to this jerk-off? Wonder if he will come by to discuss this now....

Enjoyed that one and "Pastnerized."
How about a trade? Mayo for Black.
Per Goodman and Black's AAU coach, Marquette is one of the teams interested in Black.
Gary Parrish just tweeted that Duke, KU, Marquette, Miami and 20 others are expressing interest in Black
Now that Chris is back. No thanks for one year.
Taylor, McKay, Otule and Gardner should be able to handle #4 and #5.
Sorry, but the LAST thing next year's team needs is a power forward like Black. MU already has more bodies than minutes to go around. If a scholarship opens and a senior PG becomes available, that is another story. I just don't see how this fills a need.
Wow. When is the last time that MU had a glut of bodies up front?

According to his AAU coach. I'm taking that report with a grain of salt.
Never stop recruiting.
It very well could be that Black was a backup plan if Otule did not return.
Also, we don't know who else might still be leaving. If we end up having one or two scholarships available for the upcoming year, why wouldn't you take Black if he is the best available player that fits in the 1-year time frame. We would be extremely long across the line with Jamil playing the 3 position and Taylor playing some minutes there as well.

Remember though, it'd only be for one year.
JJJ is pushing for Tarik Black to come to Marquette. Buzz has to consider him...
Given the news on Juan, sign me up for some Black and Blue!!

Yup that would be a nice trade if I dont say so myself
I prefer Taylor getting more time over us taking Black. Would prefer a project center or experienced PG transfer.

It's not like you can just go out and get whatever you want. I'm not even sure Black would be interested in MU given the number of schools looking at him. I think he would be a nice addition, particularly given the injuries that Gardner and Otule have had.
No brainer that Black would be a tremendous addition to the team, now that Juan is gone.
That would really bolster our front court.
Minnesota has offered - http://www.startribune.com/sports/blogs/202932011.html (http://www.startribune.com/sports/blogs/202932011.html)
Here are some thoughts on how Tarik would help at Minnesota (http://latenighthoops.com/recruiting-tarik-black-mn/). Some of the same comments apply to MU.
Obviously if trying to have a magical season in terms of tourney success is up there on his list of desires, Marquette would have a pretty good shot.

As would making the NBA. I can only assume Buzz has had him on the blower with Lazaar, Jimmy Butler, and Crowder. Certainly seems like he fits in that mold. Shouldn't have much trouble adapting after olaying for Pastner either.

Black could find moving into the second round next year with a strong season I would think. Compared to Zarro, Jimmy and Jae, though, he's a very different player. Much of of an interior guy. All those kids were versatile offensively and defensively... Black is best around the rim, especially on offense.
Nonetheless, MU and Buzz's success in helping guys get to the NBA is going to be a plus for most kids looking at Marquette.
PG-Duane Wilson 6'3"
SG-Vander Blue 6'4"
SF-Jamil Wilson 6'8"
SF-Tarik Black 6'9"
C-Otule 6'11"
That would be some serious length in our line-up. And that is not including Steve Taylor 6'7'' or Jamal Mckay 6'9".
MU has enough front-court players, assuming no more defections, for next year. It appears that MU will have at least 2 open scholarships for the upcoming season. I'd look for an experienced guard to come next year; if Blue is gone, the backcourt is a huge unknown. Heck, IWB mentioned that Thomas might not leave Then I'd look for a transferring big that will sit out this season and be reading to play some minutes the following.

Wow. I was using teal on the "Juan transfer" thread about there suddenly being a scholarship for Jake but there might really be?

If Jake wants to ride the bench, or have a year similar to this one his senior year for that scholarship, he'll come back. But I don't think so.
So....trying to get Black sounds more and more like a good idea now?

Disagree. Not a position of need at this point. They need a wing more than a post.

And if having a scholarship wasn't the deal breaker like it seemed to be, I wonder if Buzz is actually making a plea to Jake to stay?
What type of game does black have? Could 2 of him, mckay, Gardner and otule be on the court at pretty much all the time? They have 80 min at the 4/5 and I don't see McKay playing less than 15 and the others playing no less than 20.

Has it gotten that bad?
I would definitely take Black. Maybe he is not the type of player we need most right now but he would give us a pretty stacked front line which would really open up the perimeter for our young guards. I would also feel a lot better having some insurance in case Gardner or Otule gets hurt.

Yep. He would be an absolute bitch at MU, and the ability to move Wilson out to the wing more, would make him even more of a bitch than he already is.

Yeah you put Wilson as an oversized 3 (his NBA position if he were to go), Black at 4, and Otule/Gardner at the 5. Would be one of the best frontcourts in the country. We would dominate the glass and I think Wilson absolutely flourishes as a 3.
Am I the only one that finds his stats underwhelming for a CUSA player?
If we can get him it is no brainier. We need older players to help with the incoming class. Losing Juan and Vander will hurt on leadership side of the team. Next years expectations might need to be adjusted without another Juco or Black coming on board.
