Title: Marquette Media Guides Sought
Post by: Tigidal on April 04, 2013, 07:57:03 AM
Looking to complete a little collection, and only need the following 3, 2, 1 more season...

2005-2006 (Thank you alums!)
2000-2001 (Thank you eBay)
1994-1995 (Thank you alums!)

If you've got one/all of them lying around and would be willing to part... I'll pay $20/guide.  Email me at tigidal@gmail.com.

I collect them too.  How far back do you have?

My original intent for collecting them was to somehow get them scanned in for the wiki... never quite got around to that, though.

Back to 1964-1965...  Been getting them randomly the last 10 years, but now that I only need three to fill that gap, trying to make the final push.

Have you checked with MU? I know they have a ton of old stuff in storage.

Haven't yet... Any idea who one might contact?  Would love to see an MU athletic dept storage vault.

I do wish they'd .. digitize all of them.  We have wiki pages just waiting for that kind of stuff.

Maybe a good project for a summer intern.

You can hire an imaging company do this Topper. I know its a little pricey but if we did an MU scoop fundraiser to get it done that would be an awesome resource to have up here on the site.

If you're on twitter then tweet at Mike Broeker and I'm sure he'll respond to you or just give the Al a call.

Put the ball in MU's court.

Scoop could use the $ in other ways...especially when they leverage a hostile takeover of Apple. ;)

@Hilltop, the media guide images would go where the programs are currently housed, right? Or should there be a separate page for them?

Also...OT...

Was just perusing the 1950s football programs. Some of the covers are hilarious, especially the Michigan State ones.

77 - I suppose they could go in a separate wiki area .. but for example I put it on the season page itself .. see: http://wiki.muscoop.com/doku.php/men_s_basketball/2007

Strange .. if you search for "Media guide" .. almost nothing comes up.  But those words appear on 2006 and 2007, linked to the PDF.

Looks like the wiki's search thing is broken.

Okay. Good to know.

Can't help you with the search thing though.

I'm sure I have one, somewhere, but I, too, collect them.  Hint on the search, they were called 'press books' years ago.

When I was at Marquette I worked in the Archives department at the Library. Not sure if they would have one available for you to buy, but I'm sure they would have some on file. It would probably worth a shot to give them a call.

Good call. If nothing else they certainly would let you make some scans

Thanks for the suggestions... It's probably worth a try.  Tho I'm not interested in just looking at it or taking a photo-copy.  If they gave me some library-time with one they'd better keep a close watch.

Nice scan job...  Perhaps I should up the ante in the search for the 94-95 guide...  If someone can help me find this guide, I'll scan my whole collection (1964 to Present... see below) and make it available on the MU wiki.

I actually traded emails with Comm Director Scott Kuykendall, and he says he's also missing this season and can't help (lip service?... you decide).  But this seems to legitimize the rarity of this season.

You know...you could just do this anyway out of your love for MU and Scoop  ;)

Maybe the mods could open up a little fundraiser to make it worth your while. I'd chip in $10 to be able to see any media guide (well, except for that pesky 94-95 one)

Nope... I really DON'T want to scan at all, as it would take a year (literally)... But I'd find a way to make it happen if I had the full series.  Then work on those earlier than '64.

Wanted to report back for those that have been helping...

Talked to the MU Library about the 94-95 guide, and they physically checked the archive for me.  They have a copy, but aren't willing to part with it.  Ha.  Said that if they have more than two, they will sometimes sell a copy.  Bummer.

I believe I have seen the 94-95 media guide on the top shelf of the east wall of the intern's room at the AL.  I may be thinking of a different year, however.

Now I'm interested.

There's definitely one in the MU Archives, so it does exist - http://www.marquette.edu/library/archives/SuperB/UNIV-B-2-4s2.shtml

Nice... Didn't know I could have verified myself.  Now I'm thinking I need to sneak into the archive with the cleaning crew.

Wanted to update this string to let folks know that due to the kindness of MU fans/alums, I've completed my media guide collection back to the '64-'65 season.

I promised that I'd see about trying to scan them into a wiki or storage of some sort, and I will indeed be looking into options in the short term.

I guess should anyone have or know if they had guides prior to the '64-'65 season... lemme know.

Wouldn't the Athletic Dept or the Library Archives know this?

Yup... Looking back at the earlier link, it looks like the archives has a copy from the '54-'55 season.
