Title: Adidas strikes again
Post by: barfolomew on April 04, 2013, 12:31:12 AM
I really hope this trend in uniforms that Adidas is trying desperately to create is quashed for the folly that it clearly is.
Very sorry to see that they ponied up for the McDonald's All-American game.

My brother, when he was six years old, had pajamas that were remarkably similar to those uniforms. I believe that was the year when he suffered from nightmares.

Clearly Dolce and Garbana or Ralph Lauren wanted no part of this. Unis look like somethin' Kool Aid Perry or World Wide Wes cooked up in a garage.

Adidas is evil and must be destroyed!

Not sure designing those unis is the most egregious things Adidas has done recently....

Yeah I don't get the outrage over selling those Ri5e warmups. Sure the kid doesn't benefit from their sale, and the demand for the warmup is because of his injury, but it's inspirational. If the same thing had happened to a Warrior, I'd buy the warmup.

This just feels like Deadspin piling on any excuse to trot out the NCAA is evil and must be destroyed narrative.

From what I have heard, the kids love these, and they are the audience.

Yeah, Deadspin is criticizing them but making profits off it through advertisement. They are just trying to get clicks, not raise morals of the NCAA.

Deadspin has gone WAY downhill since Leitch left.  Used to be cutting edge and witty with a great commentariat.  Now it's basically the TMZ of sports looking to get sensationalist/troll clicks complete with a brotastic comment section.

At first blush, I find it distasteful for the school to make a profit off of Ware's injury. If this is true and Ware isn't getting any sort of financial benefit from the selling of the shirts, it seems opportunistic to say the least. If at least a portion of the proceeds benefitted him so he could handle the medical bills, that would be one thing.

I'm sure the Louisville students buying the shirts aren't thinking of it being anything other than a show of support for Ware, which kind of makes it worse...they're being taken advantage of, too.

Making gear for the team is one thing, making it a commerical enterprise feels kind of gross.

I think Adidas is trying to fill in for Nike in the out there uniform but in the basketball division. I think a more accurate term for what some teams wear these days is a costume and not uniform

Ware is not going to see one cent of medical bills.  His insurance and Louisville's insurance covers him 100%.

Wasn't sure what kind of insurance coverage he would have, if there would be deductibles, etc. Hoping you are correct and that he is 100% covered, not just for the immediate surgery but for the months of rehab.

At many schools, the claims are probably filed under their Workman' Compensation insurance policy.

Student Athletes are not employees.  That said, I am sure universities have some type of insurance for this.  I have never heard of college athlete being stuck with medical bills because of an injury.

Couldn't tell if you were ill-informed on this issue or simply forwent the teal.  My apologies for assuming the former.

They have a very Zubaz-esque look to them.
