Some of those posts in the comment sections are hilarious. You can tell there is a substantial minority of posters who have absolutely no idea what they are talking about but give these elongated posts for the reasons Williams would leave.
So obvious that they wish he would leave. No doubt competitor schools who don't like losing to Williams' teams. If you can't beat 'em hope they leave I guess. ;D
Excellent piece that touches on all the talking points whenever this discussion comes up (which is a gazillion times a day here).
IMHO, the only jobs that could conceivably open up in the next couple of years that would make Buzz leap are Kentucky (if Cal gives the NBA another crack) or Texas (in unlikely event that Barnes stumbles again next year and is fired).
Otherwise, I'd expect him to be here for a long, long time for all the reasons this column presents. And I'm plenty happy about that.
Like this "...When Marquette replaced its president and athletic director more than a year ago after problems within the athletic department, Williams lost two allies. Much has been made about the disconnect between Buzz Williams and Larry Williams, but from what I've observed and learned in the last seven months, the rift is exaggerated."

Not even sure about Kentucky. That whole "one and done" strategy doesn't seem to mesh well with Buzz's way of developing teams.

Added, Buzz seems to appreciate loyalty. That fan base in Kentucky has zero. See: Smith, Tubby.
Hunt can write a good commentary article when he wants to, but he isn't that good a beat writer.
Rosiak was a better beat writer, but can't write articles like this one.

That strategy is tied more to Calipari the coach then Kentucky the program.

But it is what Kentucky fans have come to expect.

Under Cal, yes. Every other coach, no.

Totally agree. It is Coach Cal's deal. He is a schmoozer and a slimy one at that. Trouble follows him ala Kelvin Sampson. Buzz will shake his hand after his Wildcats beat Cal's Ole Miss team and scream "You know what you did to this program! Where's my brother in law? Does he think this was cool? I wanna be a Harbaugh!
I wrote to Jeff Goodman on Twitter about how his Buzz Williams to UCLA mantra was wrong. His replay:
@GoodmanCBS I wasn't saying it WOULD happen. Said UCLA should have gone after him.
I hope Buzz stays for a long time. We're in a key point in MU hoops history with the NBE and Buzz will definitely be one of the league's marquee coaches.

I have often thought: Why would any great coach take that job? There are so many other excellent jobs. Sure, there is pressure to win in every job, but why subject yourself to the over-the-top craziness that is Kentucky basketball?
The answer is simple: Coaches (like the rest of us) have egos. They think they can handle the pressure. They think they can win at Kentucky even more than Adolph Rupp did. And they know they'll make a lot of money trying.
Most coaches don't even think about the possibility of "Yeah, but what happens if I fail?" It just isn't in their DNA.
There are some coaches who realize they have a great thing already and decide a program such as Kentucky is more hassle than it's worth. See: Donovan, Billy. Maybe Buzz would turn it down to stay at Marquette, too; we'll never know until the situation presents itself. But I think most coaches would jump at the job, or at least consider it very, very, very seriously before turning it down.
One of the comments mentions that student athletes cannot be treated differently than other students per NCAA rules, hence why MU bballers stay in rooms w/o airconditioning. Is this correct? I seem to recall a link posted on scoop earlier in the year that showed the posh new "dorms" the Kentucky bball team gets to stay in. If this is a rule, how does Kentucky get away with this?
Also this is the first article I have seen in a while that says the BigE is "arguably the best conference in the country". Up to now everyone has bought into the B1G being the best. Is the national media waiting until its a BigE vs. BigE national championship to start talking about this again (overlooking the fact 2 of the final four are BigE teams)?

This was an excellent written article...imo. And I said so to him...
The only thing it did not have is whether the University President had any kind of input or say so or if there was any kind of rift in his relationship with Buzz or not?
That is key. I think Father Wild had a great relationship it seems with Buzz and the BBall program. But we are left in the dark concerning this dynamic.
Otherwise good commentary article.

They can do it because it is not a ball-exclusive dorm. A few rooms are open to non athletes.
