Title: Next year's schedule Q
Post by: MUFC9295 on March 30, 2013, 10:13:44 PM
Will we have that great an RPI as this year?  Does anyone have a good feel foe the Nov-Dec non-conference schedule?

It will be similar to this tear, but add ND in the OOC schedule. Hopefully at home.

If not ND, a similar program. Also will need to replace a Florida like team unless FOX has a Pac12 matchup in the pipeline.

We've got Florida at home next year.  It's a home and home series.

I don't think it is, the wiki doesn't. That was the BE/SEC challenge.

I don't believe it was a home and home, pretty sure it was just part of the SEC-Big East challenge which is no longer in existence.

The only OOC games known are:

UWGB
UWMad
UWMilw

and the Chicos' Bail Bonds Classic.

I'm like 90% sure I heard Buzz say at one pint this year or last year that we had scheduled them in a home and home.  On my phone so can't look it up but I'm almost positive it was in a post game or pregame interview one of the last two times we played Florida.

Check it out when you can, love to play them at the BC for revenge next year. Just never heard that.

Florida and MU are both going to be STACKED next year. Florida has 2 top 10 freshman coming in, Kasey Hill and Chris Walker, possible one and dones. We already know what we're gonna have.

Nope. Was a one-off for the Big East/SEC Challenge. We should have UW-M as a makeup for the cancelled game that got us tOSU, we will play at Madison, play the 76 Classic that also features San Diego State and Creighton among others, and likely another shot at a Carrier type game since it fell through this year. Not sure about Green Bay, sounded like last year may have been the end of that deal.

How is that gonna work out seeing as how Creighton is now in our conference and the NCAA prohibits teams from playing other conference teams before the start of conference play?

Because it was scheduled prior to the realignment it should be considered a non-conference game with a waiver granted if we end up playing them. That's what happened when Xavier played Butler in a non-conference game this year. Contracts were already signed when Butler was in the Horizon, so it remained a non-conference game.

Whatever is done, DO NOT SCHEDULE MANHATTAN. Way too capable of having incredible games next season.

Non con opponents won't be known for quite a while but I do know that the administration is having conversations with several BIG programs seeking some home/home series.  Expect that to bear fruit as  the schedule gets announced.  I won't mention any names but can assure you they are top tier.  It is well understood that some extra beef in the non con will be important.

Milwaukee and Green Bay are not at all on the schedule yet for 2013-14.

I'd like to see ND or Gonzaga in the non-con. It'll be weird not traveling to a new conference with Cincy and Louisville…maybe of those guys for old times sake?

I expect Green Bay will not be on the schedule. I do expect us to see Milwaukee because they were gracious in letting us out of our commitment so we could play the ill-fated Ohio State game. After that, I don't expect to play either in the foreseeable future, unless they are willing to play a buy-game at the BC. Future 2-for-1, 3-for-1, or 4-for-1 series would definitely be a surprise to me.

Florida also has Dorian Finney-Smith transferring in. He started at Virginia Tech as a freshmen then left. Put that game on your calendar because its going to be a classic.

I don't see any 3-1 deals with GB or Milwaukee, untill Marquette gets H/H deals done with BCS schools to make up the loss of not playing Syracuse, L'ville, Pitt, etc.

How about Ohio State.  There was talk on both sides about doing a game in the future to make up for the cancelled Carrier Classic game.  Could be a possibility.

I don't see any deals period, 3-for-1, 4-for-1, or otherwise. If we play one, we will be expected to play the other, or we're going to hear constantly "why are you ducking Milwaukee" or "why are you ducking Wardle".

4 (1) games non-con tourney
2 (1) games Wisconsin/Notre Dame (Fully expect that to happen)
1 (0.5) games high-major home and home (like LSU, Vandy, NC State, etc in recent years)
1 (0.5) game Big East/??? Challenge (probably Pac-12 or Big 12)
1 (0) game neutral court exhibition (like tOSU, Washington)

The numbers in parenthesis are the number of home games we will get from each grouping. That puts us at 10 games with only 3.5 home games. I am pretty sure Marquette wants at least 16 home games on the schedule. We need to play an additional 4 buy games every year just to get to 16. So unless Milwaukee and Green Bay want to commit to a buy-only scenario, they won't be playing Marquette any time soon.
