Title: Pitt takes a pre-season hit
Post by: spartan3186 on September 17, 2007, 12:37:04 AM
Fields was arrested on many different charges after a nightclub incident. The most serious being aggravated assault and disarming an officer. Itll be interesting to see the teams course of action

If he played for Wisconsin he'd be conveniently suspended up until Pitt's opener...Well maybe through their first 2 exhibition games.  :)

Haven't decided if this is good (fun) or bad (without class) but I entrust our student section will remember this come Feb. 15th.

my first two thoughts were "remember Duke Lacrosse" and 'you do stupid stuff when you are young' and that we should take a wait and see approach.   Upon further review and a re-read of the story.....    Take him down, student section.   This will be a litmus test for coach Dixon.   If he is suspended for 2 preseason games, then Dixon should be ashamed.   He will also be a candidate for Bo's job in a couple of years, once it is seen how he handles the student-criminal element.

2 sides to every story I guess and innocent until proven guilty... but not many well behaved people get hit with a stun gun. I mean, I think everybody has had some sort of scrape with the law at some point... but when you punch and officer and get hit with the stunner... its no good.

I wonder if the PITT athletic department has a specific code of conduct for the athletes, or if everything is a judgment call by the coach.

ouch.  checked the pitt boards and they are roughly half saying he should be kicked off the team or suspended indefinitely if this is true.  the other half is expecting him back by january no matter what???.   ::)  Several posters are saying this isn't a big deal because the officer was "off-duty". geeeeesh

checked his roster page - bday is 6/14/1987 so that means he is 20 and under the drinking age.

We shall see how respectable Dixon is when it comes to enforcing his statement if fields is indeed guilty:
Quote
"We have built a successful program at Pitt, on and off the court, by prioritizing personal accountability and responsibility. We will not compromise when it comes to those values."

My money says Dixon will be tough.  He kicked Yuri Demetrius (a starter) off the team for getting charged with beating his girlfriend a couple years ago.

I hope Levance is cleared. But Jamie Dixon doesn't run a star program.  He will use the hammer. Even if the charges are reduced to public intoxication and underage consuption, Fields will probably be on the outside looking in.

Further evidence that the Panthers will be regrouping this season. They have a couple hotshot freshmen coming in (Blair and Wanamaker) , and a RS freshman who should help. They may be a year away.

Miracles happen, but this looks like this is the year for Golden Eagles to fly!

Good luck
