Title: Kansas / Michigan
Post by: GGGG on March 29, 2013, 06:47:12 PM
Elijah Johnson is lucky to still be in the game after punching Mitch McGary in the canutes when fighting through a pick.

not sure why they wouldn't remove him from the game for that...

My guess is because there was still 18 minutes left in the first half.

Anybody think Macklemore's draft stock is falling at all? I know he oozes potential but seems to struggle on the big stage. Been pretty underwhelming in the Big 12 and NCAA tournaments

I'm looking forward to an MU vs FGCU final four matchup.

I think the top 3 in the mocks (Maclemore, Noel, Smart) are all overrated. Maclemore is definitely the best out of the three but I agree with you in that he seems to struggle in these big games, Noel has little offense, Smart is a great pg but barely shoots 40 percent. I may get negged for this but I have always been and still am high on Shabazz Muhammad. Guaranteed to eventually score 20+ ppg in the association.

Kansas taking it to Michigan now.  Pretty clear the Big 10 was not the best conference this year.  They are certainly flaming out the 2nd weekend of the tourney.

Of course, if Michigan goes on to win this, it's because they're tough and good. While, if Marquette won in this situation, we'd be lucky.

It's a mix between Cadougan v Uconn and Davidson.

EDIT: Thanks for merging. I thought I looked and didn't see it.

Was thinking the same exact thing watching this game.  Story will be about how Burke is so good and took over the game.  If we get to play Michigan it will be, we're lucky to be here and they are awesome.

There is no more overrated coach in college ball than Bill Self. Michigan is shooting 47 percent on FTs and he refuses to foul in the final 10 seconds to prevent the three.

Wow!

Kansas has to have the worst record ever as a 1-2 seed. Seems like they are blowing up brackets every year. The Big 12 seems to produce a lot of fool's gold.

Actually Burke did take over the game after halftime, but see your point.

OK, now the number 1 seed goes down in another region.  Terrible last play by Kansas.

MU makes Final Four, no Kansas as opponent.

Give any one of 40 Division I coaches that talent and they coast to victory. He blew that game tonight.

Am I the only one that can't stand all the love for Mcgary? The guy is thriving playing as the third or fourth option in his offense, and announcers talk like he takes games over on his own. Burke is responsible for the success that is Mcgary.

I think you are way under valuing Michigan's talent. They have as much talent as any team in the country and the best player in the country.

Name me 5 with better accomplishments.

In his 16 yrs:
13 Conference Championships
7 Elite 8s
10 Sweet 16s
2 Final 4s
1 Natl Championship

Not really, the kid had 25 and 14.  Just been starting in last few games and has gone insane.  Would have been a good pickup if he committed to MU early.

True about Burke, but keep in mind that McGary is a freshman on a roster loaded with talent. If Steve Taylor was our third or fourth offensive option, we would all be wetting ourselves with excitement.

They have more talent than KU. KU's talent hasn't been like it was 3, 4, 5 yrs ago. That'll change next year with their class. But this is not an all McDonald's AA team at all. Most all are 4 stars and under, plus transfers. I think only Perry Ellis is a 5, and he's been mainly a disappointment until the Big 12 tourney.

Give me Izzo, Pitino, K, Roy Williams and Billy Donovan. And that's without even thinking about it. Self gets a high seed every year because the Big 12 blows, then finds a way to lose to a lower seed every one but one.

Totally valid point with the comparison to Steve Taylor, especially considering I'm guilty of having a major man crush on him.  I guess I just get tired of seeing Mcgary get bunny after bunny by filling the lane properly, and then hearing announcers and fans rave about his skills.

Yup, McGary actually annoys the crap out of me, but I can't argue with his production.

Last year they didn't lose to a lower seed either.

Bill Self's record is incredible at each place he has been a head coach.  He took a 6-21 Oral Roberts team...and turned them into a 21-7 team.  In his three years at Tulsa he took them to an Elite 8.  Same with Illinois.  His record at Kansas has been incredible.

Sorry for the overreaction. His record is great. His coaching tonight left a lot to be desired. You cannot let the best player in the country beat you.

Barkley commented on this as well. He said, "we debate this every week, but I'd foul every time." Sounds like they have the same debates we have here on Scoop.

BTW, I agree with you and Barkley. It makes sense to foul, IMO. I'm sure Richmond fans feel otherwise. ;D
