Title: Scoopers what is your honest gut feeling as we sit here less than 24 hrs to tip
Post by: Doris Burkes Thong on March 29, 2013, 04:57:21 PM
Is MU going back to the Final Four in what has been a decade since our last appearance?

I think they have a reasonable chance, but I wouldn't put any money on it.

I was praying for Indiana, not because of Crean, i couldn't give two f***s about him, but because Cuse is too long, and are playing much better right now.

I personally think we match up with IU better.

It's Holy Week and the Pope is a Jesuit.
That plus some good shots and tough defense, and we're in.

I'm not sure we match up with them better, but at this point of the season coaching matters a lot. Crean is a poor game coach. I feel that while IU would have likely been better than us in the first half, Buzz would have been able to out-adjust Crean in the second. Boeheim is much harder to out-coach than TC is.

I think its Syracuse's game to lose.  If Syracuse does not match our physicality or intensity, we will win.  If they do, we lose.  I am going with the 'you can't change a zebra's stripes' and we out hustle and punch Syracuse in the mouth and they have no answer.

Wish I could say one way or another. Nothing will shock me with these guys. Will add that I do think the swagger of a winner right now.

I would give us 51% odds of advancing. Syracuse is very good and, like us, peaking at the right time. Buzz has beat Boeheim 3 of the last 4, including in the tournament. We know their zone and know how to beat it; we certainly won't be clueless and unprepared like IU was. But it sure as hell won't be easy. Syracuse is the only other team in the East that I was at all nervous about. I feel without a shadow of a doubt these are the two best teams in the region.

Another big part is coaching, absolutely.  Cuse simply has way better players than IU.  Triche' Southerland, Carter Williams, Fiar, etc.  Soo much talent on that team.   Cuse's biggest downfall is simply mental errors.  If they keep their heads in the game i think Louisville is 1a, Cuse 1b.

But i do think we pull it out somehow.

Pick 'em game.  Could entirely go either way.  Won't really be surprised at any outcome.  Just play hard, and hope the magic continues.  I'm extremely proud of them, been touting my colors all day and talking about them to anyone that will listen.  That said, got the taste of victory, and would love to see them make it back to the FF sooner than I expected!

The rational side of me wants to say they lose, but sometimes fate, destiny, luck, whatever you want to call it is on a team's side.  Marquette just seems to be a team that has everything going for it since the last minute of the Davidson game.  I'm going with MU 70-67.

I felt much, MUCH better about the Miami game than this one. I don't really know why. Cuse is playing well now, as are we. I just have a fear of Boeheim after so many losses. I just don't see us pulling this one out, unfortunately.

If it were not for the giant chp these guys are carrying on their shoulders I would right with you. Something about their walk and body language has me believing. We have rehashed Vander a million times on here, but he looks in another gear than just two weeks ago. Plus I have never Jamil have such a killer instinct that he is showing.

Truthfully if I had to make a bet I would take the Warriors. Not a homer call, just think they have an edge to them. After watching the Jimmy V 30 for 30 it shows what believing in yourself can make the unbelievable happen. The guy in charge of this team might just will them to FF.

I am sticking with a W tomorrow afternoon.

Feeling pretty good. The last couple of games have looked good, and it's an opponent we know.  If it's close, we are a team that finds a way to win.
This team, this season, things seem to happen when they aren't supposed to.

I'm a bit worried about this game. But, I was worried about the Miami game and look how that turned out. Cuse has been playing really good, but I would give the nod to us as we seem to have their number. I don't think there's anyway this isn't a close game.

I was convinced that we would beat Davidson.

I was concerned about Butler; they have that history of upsets.

I was surprised/disappointed that the whole basketball world thought that we would get rolled by Miami but I thought that we had the edge in tournament experience and depth. I believed that we would edge them.

I am flat out afraid of Syracuse. They won't be awed by the bright lights. They lost to us so we won't be overlooked. We don't "own" the intangibles. It will be an old-fashioned Big East dog fight. The more determined and better coached team will win. In my heart, I think that we CAN be both of those. In my head, I don't think that we hold the edge. Heart, pls rule the day.

Maybe this is a good thing. The media has been doubting this team all year and has been telling us throughout this tournament how we're just lucky. If even the diehard Marquette fans that are starting to come around to this team don't have faith in them, how can they lose?

I feel great!  Too many good stories on this team for it to end here.....feels at this point like destiny.   Stories of interest include:

The one-eyed center nobody wanted
The one year transfer with the mother battling cancer
The eccentric and heartfelt coach who bootstrapped his way up from nowhere by perseverance, hard work, faith and was the shocking choice to take over a program and is now mentioned in every open position at an elite program.
The first full 4 year recruit under the coach who has become like his son
The superstar recruit who transformed his game on and off the court to prove all his doubters wrong
The transfer from Oregon who has figured it out
The football player from Alaska who somehow services as a defensive stopper and back up pg
The kid from Chicago with the smile and the balls to contribute right away
The assistant coach from DePaul who has found redemption

I mean, c'mon....ho can the dream end here?

Oh yeah, and we know Syracuse well and will slash and burn that zone while holding them in check on defense.

I have a vision of boys in baby blues cutting down the nets while my eyes grow misty and my scotch glass empties...

I agree on the 3 possible matchups. Good thing is none of those three teams can be compared to Kentucky of last year. We can beat the three mentioned teams on a given night and I do not think last years team could have beat Kentucky 1 out of 20 times, if the game meant something. One game at a time and see what happens.

MU played an incredibly bad half against Syracuse, a 4 point play by Jake brought them out of there doldrums.  I have said all along Jake Thomas got his scholarship to help beat
Syracuse.  He could do it again.  Todd just seems not to happy on the court and it shows, his body language is awful.  If he is back next year I would be surprised.  I think he is a little
over-rated by most MU fans, he is not quick and his shot is just average. But today they may need him, the difference is that Vander has come on big time, so has Jamil.  But Gardner
in the middle like last time, gives MU a big target to do a lot on the offensive end.  Syracuse looked really good Thursday, have to guard Williams, he is the key.  They are beatable,
that is for sure.  Have to make some shots, it will entertaining to watch today!

I think we have a really good chance of going back to the Final Four.

A lot of people think this is a bad match-up for us. I disagree. You aren't going to beat Syracuse's zone with the outside shot. If it were that simple, their zone wouldn't be that effective and they probably wouldn't keep running it. You beat Cuse's zone with penetration (Blue / JR), physical post play (Gardner / Otule), and mid-range jump shot from FT line and elbow (Jamil / Taylor?).
