Literally the conversation...
Me: Did you check out the game last night?
Illini Fan: Yeah. Big win. I always knew Miami wasn't really that good.
Me: They are pretty good.
Illini Fan: Not really.
Me: So winning the ACC doesn't mean anything?
Illini Fan: It just comes to show you how bad the ACC was this year. Syracuse is a really good team though.
Me: I know. We beat that in regular season so I hope we can pull it out again.
Illini Fan: Well, Syracuse was playing so bad back then. Now they are playing really well.
I hope every Big Ten team loses. They are such idiots. D Bags never give credit where credit is due.

Illini fans can talk themselves into anything. I am sure I will have a conversation similar to what you had in the near future with a stupid Illini fan.
You know what I hate even more?
This conversation, which I have had more than I care to admit:
Me: So, where did you go to school?
Other person: Marquette.
Me: So did I! Hey, how about that basketball team?
Other person: Oh, I haven't been paying attention to them. Are they any good this year?

In most cases, yes, but not always, and that is not a legitimate excuse.
That's just one guy.
I agree. Conversation with a Minnesota alum:
Me: Good call on Miami over Marquette
Goldy: Well enjoy it before we steal your coach
Me: Why would Buzz leave Marquette for a worse program?
Goldy: Hahaha! Tubby made $2 million last year. Marquette can't pay that.
Me: Buzz made $2.8
Goldy: Well everyone wants to coach in the Big 10.
Me: Not Shaka Smart
Goldy: You're a private school elitist.
Actual conversation with a Big Teen (UM football season ticket holder) fan.
"I have Syracuse beating IU."
"No way, the Big 10 is going to kill the Big East"
"Nope. Crean couldn't beat Boeheim when we was at Marquette and I don't think he can now"
"Crean coached at Marquette?"

IU fan: you may get your wish and regret it.

IU fan: we will coast to final 4...
2 hours later:
me: boy oh boy. The cuse didn't even win the big east. Crean is a terrible in game coach. Maybe we can play next year.

Pretty much had the same conversation with another Minnesota fan. He listed Buzz as their #3 target, and I told him there was no way Buzz would take a step down to Minnesota. He was convinced that Minn is a better job than MU. I told him all the important points--Buzz's salary is higher, better facilities, 2nd highest expenditure on hoops in the country. Still believed that because it was in Big Ten, that made it a better job. ugh.
The love they are showing us on the IU boards is another reason to hate the B1G (these are posts on an IU thread started by a Syracuse fan after the game just telling them tough loss and that IU had a great year):
IU Fan Responding to 'cuse poster: "For the love of God, Don't come out next game like Miami did tonight! That would just flat out piss me off!"
2nd IU Fan: "Cuse is going to dismantle Marquette. They actually played earlier in the year when Cuse was on their losing streak. It took some questionable officiating, a player who had never played in the big east hitting a bunch of threes, Gordon going off for 26 points (career high), and 45 free throws (yes for real) for Marquette to beat Cuse by a couple of points.
You should stop by the Marquette board - they're shitting their pants. They wanted Indiana instead. It's going to get bad.
After that, I have no idea how they will do in the final four."

Thank you. I'll be sharing this with a few UW-madison employees here.
ETC= Excess team conference.
Someone asked me who I thought was the best conference yesterday. I said at the top, it's the Big Ten, but overall it was the Big East. I was told I was a Big East homer and that Illinois or Minnesota would beat anyone in the Big East except for Louisville and maybe Marquette.
And I'm a homer for my league?
This thread is seriously cracking me up.
Bump because the big ten fans are annoying

That was mean.
But very appropriate. ;)
Y'know, I'd love to put this up in my garage.
Who the hell cheers for a conference. O yea people whose teams aren't playing anymore
Cuse beat the B10 champ. MU beat the ACC champ.
Big East not dying without a fight!

Its funny, there seem to be people pointing to that losing streak as a reason to discount it. They weren't on a losing streak until we beat them. Their losing streak also mysteriously happened when they played the 3 teams that tied for first place. The losing streak wasn't because they were playing badly, it was because they were outplayed.

"If you don't like it, you can leave"

I'm sorry I offended sixstrings and buckchuckler with my opinion. You are both correct, it is not my place to determine what is thread worthy and what isn't. Please forgive me.
I can say definitively that I think the subject of this thread is stupid, and I will now take buckchuckler's / uncle rico's advice and leave it forever.
I'm not saying, I'm just saying you guys need some new friends. An Illinois grad buddy of mine described the MU/UM game as an MU beat down and had nothing but flattering things to say about MU. Another friend, a KU grad, roots for MU as his second team. Why would you give those "big whetevs" dorks who obviously don't have a clue the time of day. What really irritates me is fans who don't know good hoops when they see it. I will be rooting for MSU over Dook, I still have my NCAA champ t-shirt from '79. And it would now seem that MU has an extra fan KU 85-U of 87. Go Warriors beat those hairy cats from cuse

Exact same thing for me, just a UW fan. He said because Crean left MU for IU, Buzz would go to Minn because it was a job in the mighty Big Ten versus "that new Catholic conference". Had to explain the difference between a blue blood program versus a program in a pretty crummy position, being at a disadvantage in its conference to five or six elite programs, and how that contrasts to a program that invests enough to be one of the strongest in a high major conference where schools will be doubling their television revenue. Also an amusing story to share how MU's basketball commitment was enough to pay top dollar for one Isaac Chew to take him away from a B1G program that didn't have the basketball resources to match.

My impression is their are no B1G fans. Their are UW and the rest of the conference can go to hell as far as badgers fans are concerned. This is repeated for all the 12/14/?? schools in the B1G.
I really enjoyed this thread. Personally, my U of I brother joined me at a Marquette bar to watch the Miami game, fully supporting MU. Two weeks ago, a neighbor's friend was harassing me about the ND loss. Wonder how that guy's enjoying the tournament that counts. WINNING.
