Marquette wouldn't be eligible to play at the BC, regardless of seeding, right?

Correct. I believe that teams cannot play at their host site. If Madison were ever to host, MU could play there.
I could also be completely wrong. :-\
IIRC this is correct.
Didn't I see Michigan and Michigan State playing in Auburn Hills?
Ooops, answered, but it still doesn't seem right.
Correct, MU can't play at the BC for 2 reasons:
1) We're the host.
2) We play over a certain number of our home games there. (don't know the cut-off, but I believe it's 3)
If the Horizon league hosted the games at the BC, we still couldn't play there.
I think it also means that they automatically put us in the sites that are playing on opposite days we host. MU is hosting on Thursday/Saturday meaning MU will play Friday/Sunday.
I might be wrong but thought I heard this somewhere.

Somewhat correct. Villanova plays several games at the Wachovia Center but is allowed to play games at that site because they also play at the Pavillion.
Thanks for the responses, folks. Looks like purchasing tickets at the BC for 2014 is a no-go right now.

Unfortunately, this is just wishful thinking. For example, Temple played in Dayton this year the same days they served as hosts in Philadelphia.

Villanova intentionally played fewer games at Wachovia/Wells Fargo Arena that year and stayed under the limit so they could play a tourney game there. If the Horizon League hosted and we played nearly all our games at the MECCA, we could technically play a tourney game at the BC.

I believe Oakland University was the host.
Also Nova as able to play at the Wachovia for the Ncaa's, because they only played 3 or 4 games there and most were played at the Pavilion. They also were not the host.

Fortunately, the whole hosting and playing in the NCAA tournament isn't an issue for Dayton.

Exactly. MU would also miss out on the revenue for hosting it which I'm sure is a major reason they prefer to host it.

Really? I didn't think that was the case. I thought you couldn't play at an arena that was within X miles of your home arena.

I think they could host and play if they were in the First Four. They hope to make it there someday.
I found this from Kansas, which says a team can't play more than 3 regular season games in a venue and still play there in the tourney. Kansas played 8 games at the Sprint Center in KC this year, but the Big 12 tourney games don't count against their total.

"According to KU officials, NCAA rules allow a team no more than three regular-season games in one venue and still play in the same venue for the NCAA Tournament. With the two CBE Hall of Fame Classic contests and the Oregon State game, this criteria will allow Kansas to play in the Sprint Center for the 2013 NCAA Tournament. Note, the Big 12 Championship is considered a postseason event."

I've never heard that. I thought it was only based on how many games you played there, and who the host was.
The 3 game rule is correct. Villanova has hosted the NCAAs at the Wells Fargo Center ( and Spectrum ) while it scheduled 3 games at the venue(s) and played the rest at the Pavillion on campus. Done to get past the rule.

The two exceptions to the rule are the First Four and the Final Four.

False. Pitt missed out on playing at the Consol Energy Center last year for the first couple rounds. They would have needed a preferential seed, but missed the tourney completely. Duquesne was the host.

Villanova was not the host for those games in Philly.

Going to the tournament is a ton of fun regardless of seeing MU. You should consider buying tickets anyway. I've been going for 10 years now and have seen some amazing games. And I only saw MU once (2003).

I disagree with this. You can find tickets outside the stadium for peanuts and get great seats. Last time the tourney was here I got tickets 10 rows back in the lower bowl of the BC to watch the session with Georgia Tech/OK State and Ohio State/UCSB matchups.

$500 for two tickets is a heck of a deposit that could be spent on a road trip to STL or NYC for the BET. Or I could just spend it on hookers and cocaine.

Believe they were. But, thats irrelevant. It comes down to playing 3 or less games in the venue.
I can't recall if it was the last time, or two times ago .. I bought tickets for NCAAs thru MU at the BC, I think the max was 8. I figured I'd just have them, sell them to friends who wanted to go.
Turned out, no one wanted them, including me .. eventually, I sold them to a ticket broker .. and even though UW was playing the the BC, I only got face value, which surprised me. Why? The secondary market is flush with these tickets. There just aren't 19,000 fans who want to see all these games at one arena, so the tickets are quickly sloshing around with scalpers because so many fans are going home quickly.
In short .. I'll never buy those tickets again. No need.

It's 2 tickets for 6 total games. It's not like you're spending $250 for just one game.
I don't know what else to tell ya... It's a great weekend of basketball. I think it's definitely worth going to the games.

I wouldn't buy them to sell them. It's not a good investment at all. But if you want to go, it's definitely a good time.

St. Joe's was the host that year. It's both venue and host.

Thats surprising that UW was playing. Where were the seats? Last time UW played at the BC in the tourney I got well over face value and I just went through Stub Hub.
I got well over face for the UW games at the BC last time too. In fact, it was enough to pay for my other 2 sessions, so I got to go for free.

Every 4-5 years is a pretty good frequency. I was there in 2004 & 2009. Wisconsin losing to Pitt was a great game, made even better by watching all the sad red faces walking out of the BC.
