Big East signs TV deal with CBS

http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/9100284/big-east-signs-tv-deal-cbs-sports-2020

The Big East conference, which plans to rename itself this spring, has signed a deal with CBS Sports to televise basketball games through the end of the season in 2020.

CBS will have the first selection from conference and nonconference games, including those played at neutral sites.

The conference did not reveal financial terms of the deal, which provides up to 12 appearances on CBS each season, half of which will be league games.

Starting in 2014, the league's basketball lineup will include Connecticut, Cincinnati, Temple, South Florida, Central Florida, Houston, Memphis, SMU and Tulane.

So how much is the Old Big East paying CBS to televise their games?

ESPN was scrolling last night that ECU has also been added as a full member rather than just football only.

Scary with all of its brethern joining from C-USA that Memphis is still better off as they have at least Temple, UConn,, & Cincy now.

I believe ESPN is FB only.  This is BB.

Correct me if I'm wrong

Ah, that would make sense. For whatever reason I thought FB and BB would be a package deal.

For now. No way UConn and Cincy last more than a couple years. ACC will come calling when a few more of their schools get poached.

So does this mean that there will be no week night televised Old Big East games? I can't imagine CBS pulling NCIS: The Moon (or whatever crime procedural of the night is on) to televise Tulsa vs East Carolina.

Their is a CBS Sports channel, called the CBS Sports Network.  It is the old CSTV (College Sports TV).  This is different from the CBS Network ...

The ESPN deal was just for one year.  The article doesn't say when this deal starts, so maybe it starts in 2014.  Next year on ESPN, then to CBS Sportsnetwork the following year.

If that happened it would be interesting to see what Memphis would do?  My guess is they are not downgrading football so they would not join the NBE.  They would basically be where they are now I guess.

They'd probably stay where they are, which essentially is CUSA redux (with the addition of Temple).

ESPN deal is for 6 years. They matched the deal from NBC SN.
