Title: Just to share
Post by: wadesworld on March 24, 2013, 09:37:50 PM
Was at the game Thursday and Saturday.  Was at the post game reception when the team returned to the hotel and hung around the hotel for a while.  With the players and coaches randomly walking around the lobby and reception area we had the time to talk to some of them.

Isaac Chew is an absolutely great guy.  He stood around in the hall just shooting the crap with us for at least 5 minutes, asking if we drove and how long the drive was, etc.  Thanked us for coming, etc.  Really, really nice guy and can see why he is known for his recruiting, can see why both parents and players would fall in love with him.  By the way, he looks EXACTLY like Dwyane Wade as long as you're not standing directly next to him.

Steve Taylor is an awesome guy.  Happy to take pictures with anyone who asked, loved "Free Steve Taylor!" happy to talk to fans, etc.

Derrick Wilson is also very nice.  We were just standing around in a hallway and he went out of his way to approach us and shake our hands and thank us for coming.  By the way, not that I had never noticed it before as it's pretty obvious, but my goodness he is THICK!

Jamil Wilson is absolutely great with kids.  Took pictures with all of the kids that were asking, autographing basketballs for kids, just kind of "hanging out" with them a lot.

Junior Cadougan had a little bit of the same but it was one kid in particular.  Not sure who it was, but after being interviewed after the Butler game he was walking off the court and picked a little kid up and threw him up and down.  Pretty funny.  Thinking it was Buzz's kid, but didn't really see.

For the most part, all of the guys seemed like good guys.  Those were just the things that stuck out to me.  Heard multiple times that Jerry Wainwright is an awesome guy.  Didn't get to talk to him at all, but I did ride down the elevator with him and he was happily willing to talk about the upcoming Butler game with some other Marquette fans on the elevator.

Last note, after the post game reception the team went into the room next to the reception for a team dinner.  Davante stayed out in the hallway and was sitting with someone who I would imagine was some sort of academic adviser doing his school work.  God to see they're still focusing on school even during tourney time.

Heard multiple times that Jerry Wainwright is an awesome guy.

When he was coaching at DePaul, he had his coaches show on The Score in Chicago.  He is hilarious.

I thought it was funny, but I also thought Sultans PTSD joke at keefe was one of the best of the year.

I used to have the same problems when I coached my daughter's 6th grade team.

Jamil Wilson personally called me to remind me of Al's Run last year. Seemed like a great guy. Ended the call quickly and didn't answer any of my questions though.

Wife and I had much of the same experience with the guys/coaches in Maui.  Junior was the guy who really stood out... great personality, friendly, humble.  Jamil was the funny guy, and yes, was great with the kids.  I think it was Broeker's kids that Chris and some of the other guys were playing basketball with in the pool.... that was flat out hilarious to watch.  Steve said a dozen words to me, and three of them were "sir."  Even after the luau Thursday night, every one of these guys were tired, run down, and had to get on a plane in a couple hours, yet, they were still friendly, courteous and respectable to every one of their fans who traveled a long way to see them play.  Even LW went out of his way.

That's really awesome. I would've loved to have been there and wish I was going to D.C. to support them on Thursday. Derrick Wilson was in one of my classes and he's super nice and a really humble dude.

thanks for sharing.

Lockett asked if I wanted to go to the Cuse game with him for cheap and before I could answer, he hung up.

A couple of comments have reminded me of a couple of other things.  Spoke with someone who has a lot of connections to the program and he said CO is just an absolutely great guy.

Also, after the Butler win they interviewed Trent and when he was walking off the court you could tell he was completely exhausted but absolutely beyond happy to be a Warrior and really appreciated all the Marquette fans who were sticking around.
