Title: Brad Stevens
Post by: seakm4 on March 24, 2013, 05:50:25 AM
What a professional.

I look a Buzz, who I love, in an interview and he can't name a player.  Watching the post game Brad named every player from Trent, to Devonte, to Vander.  The man doesn't look and see a number, and he took the time to name them all while addressing them.  He also took the blame for the end of the game.

This man will be around for a long LONG time.  It's tough to say because he will coach against us every year from now on, I like him.  The man is a pure bread professional and will win a lot.  He also is gonna coach until all of us are dead, because he's too damn young to be so f'ing smart.  I wish him the best of luck against the rest of the c7 that isn't us.

Hopefully, he and Buzz stay put, because this is going to be one of those 'must see' match ups that basketball junkies all over tune in to watch.    Class act, great coach.    Welcome to the Big East.

Stevens is a great coach and part of how college athletics can be great. We have played two outstanding coaches in this tourney.

Yes, just to echo the theme: the original Big East was made great by the coaches and the personality rivalries involved. Bohemian, JT2, Carnesseca, Pitino, Massimino, et. al. Hopefully Williams, Stevens, JT3, Wright, Laven, et. al. can build something similar. These guys are all young. In 5 to 10 years, this league can be special if the coaches at the top stay put.

Agreed on Brad Stevens, he has been my favorite coach out there for a while, but you're looking at Buzz the wrong way. I guarantee you be knows opposing players names. The team prepares for opponents using opponents numbers. Everyone involved in MU's preparations needs to know the opponents' numbers, not the names. If the names are anywhere on an opponent's jersey, it's only on the back. The numbers are on the front and back. If you tried preparing for a team based on player names your have a lot of blown assignments with kids just guarding the wrong kid. Can't mess up the numbers. And Buzz gives his press conferences like he's watching tape of the opponent. That's why he uses numbers and not names. Nothing disrespectful about it at all and doesn't make Stevens more classy for using the names.

Buzz went on and on about how long he has been tracking Rotnei Clark as a coach.  He just refers to the numbers because that's how they coach.

Right, buzz is well aware of who the players are. He has mentioned this before on how they refer to numbers instead of names and means no disrespect by it

As others said, Stevens is a great coach and class act but he needed to hire numbers guy to do his statistical analysis ala Moneyball.  Buzz is his own numbers guy.

Stevens does have a numbers guy. They showed him a few times in the telecast. Announcers said Stevens, who is an accountant, is very numerate.

Just glad that one of the MU vs. Butler games will be local each year.  If both coaches stay put for another 3-5 years, this rivalry will become special.
