Title: BTW for those who complain about Buzz's sub patterns.
Post by: GGGG on March 23, 2013, 09:58:37 PM
Tonight is an example of why he does it.  Keep guys fresh.  Cycle them through.  Grind, grind, grind...

Butler got tired no doubt about it. Fresh legs were the difference. Buzz knows what he's doing.  I could stand to see less Juan however

It's amazing how we beat one of the best coaches in the game today with a coach who subs way too much and a team that can't play.

Im a full fledged complainer and it sure worked well tonight. Waves of bodies against a stale few on the other side.

It's been this way all season, but a HELL of a coaching job by Buzz tonight. Great adjustments out of the half, MU attacked, attacked, attacked on both ends. I think Clark only had one 3 in the second half.

Though I wouldn't have agreed with you during the Butler run in the first half with Jake Thomas on the floor, it turns out Buzz knew what he was doing.

Me too, always seems crazy.  But it works and I respect the man's knowledge, not mine.  Thats the first time I have ever, ever seen a game in which sub graphics were displayed.

Agree 100%

Refs were letting a lot of contact go. MU got aggressive, particularly defensively and wore Butler down.

I am fine with the concept, but I do think it burns us in certain situations. This was one of those situations.

Buzz should have called a timeout before that lead got up to 10, IMO. Blue sat at the scorers table for several minutes watching that run.

Everybody knows you keep throwing different defenders at shooters. Shooting is about rhythm and you can't get into one if you can't figure out who is guarding you.

Absolutely phenomenal job by Buzz, Derrick and the rest of the team.

Seriously? Just stop posting and wait until you can appreciate that this is an amazing accomplishment with this team.

Indeed. It was pure joy seeing Clark's smug arrogance give way to despair as the second half played out. I thank God for Buzz Williams' ability to make meaningful in-game adjustments and recruit an effective team more than 3 deep.

Once again, one of the board's great basketball experts...

How does any part of my post translate to not appreciating what the team accomplished?

I am amazed by what Buzz and this team has accomplished. I'm sorry I don't meet your true fan criteria.

You never miss an opportunity do you?

Let me be completely clear:

Buzz knows infinitely more about basketball and coaching than I do. I trust Buzz as a coach, and like his philosophy on substitutions this year. I was simply saying that for one stretch in the first half, it looked like it hurt us. In the long run it paid off, we won, and I am happy.

Anyone who thinks Buzz can't coach, and there are WAY too many people that still say that, are out of their mind. I truly think he's one of the best young game coaches in college basketball today. Outcoached Stevens in the second half and his strategy paid off.

Stevens was straight up frustrated in the second half.

Checkmate, Buzz.

A lot of you keep saying this, but who are all of these people that think Buzz can't coach? I either miss alot of discussions about Buzz being a bad coach, or this is MUScoop's favorite straw man.

Either way, hell of a job by Buzz and the boys tonight. 3 straight Sweet 16s is very, very impressive.

Buzz coached a hell of a game tonight. Great halftime adjustments, really got the team to buy into every single thing in the second half. A pleasure to behold.

Having said that ...

Just because somebody might question something Buzz does, it doesn't mean that person doesn't think he's a hell of a coach. He isn't perfect. Nobody is. Not Pat Riley, Phil Jackson, Roy Williams, nobody. We're fans. We're allowed to criticize sometimes. And every once in awhile, one or more of us might even have a valid criticism.

And having said that ...

I absolutely wouldn't trade Buzz for any other coach in the entire country. The second-best thing Crean did, after getting Wade, was hiring Buzz.
