Title: The announcers constantly reminded us...
Post by: TheButlerDidIt on March 21, 2013, 07:49:45 PM
That MU is a horrid 3-point shooting team and that because Davidson was the best free throw shooting team in the nation, MU was playing perfectly into Davidson's hands. In their defense, MU was.

After some divine intervention in the form of an errant pass and some damage control by Vander Blue, Marquette was up one with no time left.

What a sweet, sweet win-no matter how ugly. I cannot wait until Saturday.

Funny thing is I'm not even anxious for Saturday yet..... I really want to let this W soak in and enjoy it before worrying about Butler.... feels amazing being on the right side of one of these games in the tourney for once!

Best free throw shooting team in the nation struggled from the line, Davidson was 14-22, 63%

We were 15-17, 79%

I also noted the announcers pointed out that Davidson practiced free throws....   ;)

Anyone else really like the great insight before haltime of McKillop saying his team was jinxed by the "announcers" curse? Shows just how bad that broadcast was. I never thought I would miss listening to Len Elmore.

In retrospect, how great was having Gus Johnson call the Syracuse game 2 years ago.

Best free throw shooting team in the nation was outshot at the free throw line in each of their last 6 games: http://davidsondaily.com/davidson-basketball/game-recap/no-14-seeded-davidson-nipped-by-no-3-seeded-marquette-59-58-in-ncaa-tournament (http://davidsondaily.com/davidson-basketball/game-recap/no-14-seeded-davidson-nipped-by-no-3-seeded-marquette-59-58-in-ncaa-tournament)

I thought that was funny by McKillop and showed some levity in a tight situation.

As for the announcers, Bird and Snark are a pro combination. Work together all year long. Bird considered one of the best play-by-play guys in the business whether its basketball or football.

Actually, we were 15-19.  15-17 would have been 88%.  Just sayin'.
