with all the wailing and gnashing of teeth over what is actually an amazing schedule, is the following:
"Add in a local TV package that is nearing completion, and nearly every one of MU's regular-season games will be televised in some form."
This will be absolutely huge for MU, in further building a fan base and in the recruiting front. Many people even in Wisconsin cannot see Mu highlights. How many times over the last 10 years has MU been ranked, especially in the OOc portion of the schedule and never had a highlight on Sportscenter or EsPN news? LAst year we were ranked the entire preseason and i think the only non-con gmaes that our highlights were on ESPN was Texas tech, Duke, and Wisky. Most nights they would show the 12th rated team's highlights and the show the MU score only, and then the 14th or so rated teams highlights. Totally a missed opportunity for MU. nothing like DJ dunks or Coobey's three or whatever to get fans and recruits interested or keep them interested in the program. How many times over the last 15 years have i tuned in ESPN to watch MU highlights expecting only a score but hoping....and then only got a score. No more.
The local package just the same, maybe a casual fan that would not go to the game or one who very very lightly pays attention to the program tunes them in becuase nothing else is on. maybe becomes more of a fan, maybe goes to a game maybe buys a shirt etc.
This loacl TV package putting all Mu games on th aiwaves will have very very positve repurcussions.
I bet it's Time Warner, Channel 32. Hopefully is can be picked up in other markets. But as you said, a great great move by the University.

Yes, and just by having the broadcast *available* some games are more likely to be picked up by regional FSN or Full Court broadcasts too. I think out-of-towners will get to see a record number of games this year.
I wonder if these locally televised games will be a simulcast of the radio broadcast or will we get different announcers? I guess Pat Hughes has done some games in the past. Would Tony Smith be a logical TV color guy? I think he did some work last year when McIlvaine was away.
Pat would make sense to step back in Tony and maybe george considering the games are local for the color or is that bridge irreparable burned?
Yes, in the past we hired Pat Hughes as well as the SIU announcer. Jim Chones, George and others have done the color analysis work in the past, along with Al when he was still alive.
Pat would be great. The other option would be MU's own Chris Roth who did some games for us or MU's own Les Kasper (currently a Cubs announcer).

Pat Hughes......he'd beat any rival announcer in a game of H-O-R-S-E
nice set shot, especially off the glass!

It's actually Le
n and he's probably the worst baseball announcer in the country.
If you think Len Kasper is a bad announcer, you obviously don't remember Chip Caray. Kasper talks too much, but Caray was unbearable.

All of the Careys were unbearable

Sorry, that award has already been claimed and renamed after Michael Kay.

Typo on my part....Len went to school with me. I still have an audio tape when I was a DJ at WMUR interviewing him live on the air as he reported from Chicago when we were announced as a charter member of the Great Midwest Conference. Can't believe I put Les instead of Len...thanks for the catch.
Len would be awesome.

I thought that distinction went to Joe Buck? Fox removed him from Baseball shortly after the allstar break because they thought he was being overexposed with Baseball and football...translation: people were annoyed with him.

Len Kasper and Bob Brenly are one of the best announcing teams in baseball today. Period.

Actually they are one of the worst. Their bias on broadcasts is ridiculous. I know all home announcers tend to do that, but those two are a joke; which kinda sucks because Kasper does pretty good play by play and Brenly has some good analysis, but they are so tainted with Cubs gushing.

Cubs bad. Me no like.
Getting to the heart of the issue....
The worst baseball announcer in the world is, without a doubt, the Yankees' Suzyn Waldman. Ten minutes of her and you'll become a lifelong NFL diehard.

They aren't the Fox national broadcast team. They are the Cubs TV broadcast team. The team that announces for broadcasts for Cubs fans. Although I don't think they should be blind to the faults of the Cubs (which being a lifer Cub fan, I can attest to many) I think they should have some homer in them.
Maybe it's because I know Len is an MU guy, but I have always liked him. Brenly is no Ron Santo ;) but he is adequate.

I know they aren't the national team, I never said they were. I said the are unabashed bias towards the Cubs to a ridicuolus level, which they are.

If you watch them everyday they actually aren't ridiculously biased, they're just not overcritical. And knowing that the Cubs ran off the best color man in baseball due to being overly critical I would see why they would be lax on the criticism.
