Since this is the first authentic source I've seen it displayed, I wonder if and for how long they will attach the "New" to the name?  I do like the differentiation and it is helpful, but is this just a clarification for a couple weeks, does it go away right at 7/1, or does it stick around for a good year until the "New" can be dropped from "New Big East" without confusion as to the conference's identity?

They will drop it either

1.  At the end of the tourney
2.  At the end of the spring sports season.

For the record, it makes the Big East logo look like a laundry detergent label.

"Now, heathen-free!"

Great to see Madison Square Garden mentioned in that press release.

Yes, so true.  They can't drop this soon enough.  I guess 7/1 since until then, we are in the Big East (old).

Best I could do.   ;)   I'm sure someone's being paid big bucks to make a better logo, and not using Paint and Google Image to do it.

Bigger and Better Big East.

It doesn't have to be true, does it?  And if so, we are bigger as far as reaching west.

Let's hope. They are signed untill 2016 or 2017. The ACC is looking into MSG.

I doubt MSG would be there if there wasn't something significant.

Better be a 10 year or more deal with MSG.  Anything less and I'll be paranoid.

My feeling is that the deal with MSG will be the same length as the Fox contract.

Now, there could be an opt out clause, but it would make sense for both parties to commit for the same time-frame.

Agreed. I would think that if you are a start-up all-sports network and your golden-coin-of-a-hoops-conference is going to have a tournament, you'll want to be the one showing that, as well as having that tournament at the most prestigious location possible.

MSG wouldn't attend this presser if it were a one- or two-year deal. As others have stated, it probably runs the length as the Fox deal...12 years.

Sorry, Boeheim...enjoy Greensboro next year.

Pretty sure the MSG extension was signed into 2025-2026.

I think there was concern this agreement would be voided when the C7 split.

We'll find out tomorrow, but it doesn't make sense that MSG would show up if it were only a short-term deal. That would be odd. Also sounds like MSG Network will be taking over for SNY as a secondary network.

That would just be awesome.  I think a lot of people figured the ACC to MSG was a foregone conclusion.  Sorry, Jim.

Have fun with the center of gravity of your league being in North Carolina.Four teams in that conference tournament with home court advantage and another two with a very reasonable drive.  Cuse?  Not so much.

This would be good too because there are 3 MSG channels to boot.

The Delusional Dayton Crew (http://www.udpride.com/forums/showthread.php?p=305668#post305668) still thinks they've got a chance here.

"I would expect some type of press conference from the NBE within the next 1-3 days. They have been absolutely mum to this point. Not over yet."

Actually, reading that board, Flyer fans are pretty fatalistic at this point.   A fairly strong current of 'our program really isn't strong enough to warrant an invite.'      As well as believing that MU strong-armed the rest into taking Creighton.

Which may not be far from the truth...well "strong armed" might be a bit of an overstatement...

I do like how they called Creighton, "Marquette - Omaha Campus."

Yeah, there are quite a few that have come around to see that this isn't happening.  The one that I quoted, and a couple others, make me LOL.

It seems they're a key partner so it's got to be at least that.  Not like it's a huge coup for MSG that it gets the NBE's 4-day tournament once a year, so I'd think MSG Network at a minimum.  I'd really love if they could partner with the conference to do something in the non-conference season; alternate years with half or even get them all to MSG to play a neutral OOC game.  Would think having the network side covered plus playing in MSG would be enough to get respectable opponents to play in New York even if MSG is semi-home to the NBE teams.

Butler's original name was North Western Christian University.  And more Butler students self-identify as Catholic than any other religion.  So not heathens, unlike those godless public universities.
